Wonder if they will help us first beta testers with that? Not holding my breath, as all the other mods were not made available as an aftermarket part.

I hope they come up with a linear style servo that has a lock on at least the landing/take off side.

Thats what I am using, and have a confession, running it on 7.4v. Runs for cover :-)

That Savox SH-0256 servo is 29.4mm tall. I thought that was too tall for the Gaui R5.

I'm confused too especially when you look at the distance from the bottom of the servo ears to the bottom of the case....21mm...

According to my previous calculations, that dimension cannot be more than ~ 17mm in order for the bottom of the servo to clear the canopy.

flyingkiwi,

Please inform us how you were able to fit the Savox SH-0256 servo in your R5. Tips, tricks, mods?

Thank you in advance for your time and consideration. (lol)

My Bad, been through a few different servos and when I had a quick look to confirm i should have got my torch and magnifying Glass out.
Mine is the sh-0255mg. Nothing special but has lasted longer than anything else even though its on 7.4v, so I dont see it as any more of a risk. Also I keep my Cradle close by and my mates know to run out with it if I shout out. Wouldn't be the first time so thats my solution.

Shit I need some sleep. Just looked at the specs and looks like the dimensions are the same for both those servos. Let me have a proper look and get back to you.

Ok its all coming back to me now. The current servo was a rush job to get the heli flying for an event and it has continued to work so I just carried on and let it be. There doesn't seem to be a "better" option so I will live with it for now.

SO:-) I had a bunch of different servos laying around from an old trex450, so went through them to get one that still worked. Now without pulling the R5 apart my best guess is that it is an Align ds-something and I had to replace the top cap (using a savox 0255 cap as they are the same) as the original cap was cracked.

Heres a pic as evidence, and I have given myself 20 lashes plus a 15min time out for the misleading info. I hope this is sufficient :-)

I'm going to change my landing method after hearing at least two guys mention it. Will start landing using the mini auto method.

How about one of these? I realize its still LV and would need a drop down, but it has a bit more torque than the stocker.

Any update on HV or LV ones that work with no mods? (From the pages here seems like the micro savox's fit) Had a tip over on mine and broke the gearset. Have found a replacement set on mail order but want a backup servo.

Cheers,
Alastair.

Guys, I've been using OMG H1 servo for about 50+ flawless flights. Run it straight off 8-6volts. It's a drop in fit .
I also have used the OMG LDT013012C and LDT013015C with the supplied step down . both are drop in and work just fine. The last two have plastic cases and are a tad less weight than the H1.

Sounds good. But I can't seem to get OMG servo's in the UK. Looks like I will get a Savox SH0257 MG as a backup as I can get these easily here and they were good on my old Align 450 DFC. It also looks like it is the same dimensions as the Gaui.

I will try to get someone from our companies US office to get one of the OMG's for me.

Will have the caddy at the ready.. should be fun trying to land it in that

flyingkiwi - Did you weigh the caddy down to stop it flipping with the downdraft?

Cheers,
Alastair

No weight on the Cradle, and it didn't seem to have any movement
