Did you Ground your OXY?
Just wondering if any of you guys ground your OXY. I've been flying mine without grounding the tailboom but just read something in the VBAR NEO forum about static.

I haven't seen anyone report that they grounded their boom. Doesn't mean that there isn't someone somewhere, but I don't believe it's common.

If the heli has belt, then there is static too. Never had a single issue after hundreds of flights

I lost a Goblin 770 a few years back to static. Ron Thomas at Mikado helped with the diagnosis of it. All of my Goblins are grounded. Some will argue it's presents but is very real. If one researches "van de graaff generator" you will see a resemblance to our belt driven heli booms. Grounding is a cheap fix.......just say'in.

I grounded all my big helis 500 size and up, but not the small ones. So far I've been lucky after many flights.

Oxys don't seem to have that issue, or if anyone has have not seen any postings here.
I have been fighting an issue with my G420 just shutting down mid flight or even on the bench, despite 100% change of electronics. Remove the belt and it seems to stop, although have extensively tested that theory. Just got it well grounded last night for a test today. Sent from my SM-N910T3 using Tapatalk |

Never read of anyone grounding theirs. I don't think I read of anyone grounding other smaller helis, like 470L and bellow. At this sizes its possible there is not enough surface area on the belt and tail boom to create high voltages. It also seems to me on the Oxy the belt and the tail should have same potential as the tail pulley is metal and connects to the rest of the tail assembly. So the voltage across the two should be same. Not sure however.

No, they don't need to be grounded it's by design

Didn't ground, no static issues. Matter of fact I haven't grounded a heli yet but only flown 470mm 500class or smaller and all we're designed not to need grounding. Nowadays it seems like everyone uses plastic blended with a conductive material to prevent static or uses CF and aluminum.

No grounding, no issues in many hundreds of flights. But then again it's not that dry in the UK so YMMV if perhaps you live in a desert.

The boom clamping system is plastic so there's no need for grounding. If it were metal the. Yes

I had some static problems when I first built my Oxy3. Thought I had done something wrong in the build when it fell out of the sky 30 seconds into the maiden flight. After carefull inspection and testing on the bench I could see a spark jumping from the fbl to the frame, so I ran a small ground wire from the tail box to main frame and solved that problem.
It didn't however fix the problem of the fbl being a piece of junk. I was using a ZYX at the time which I could never tuned right so I binned it and installed an Ikon and havent had any issues since. It's possible though that it was a problem with the ZYX more so than an actual static issue. FWIW
