Default Dune 570

Well I've run a Dune with the standard 600mm 12s setup, stretched to a 700 speed machine on 14s and now it's filling my need for a single pack machine.

I'm using a single 3700 7s pack and 890kv 4025 motor, with SAB 570mm blades. The headspeed should be around 2,200rpm, so it's not a smack machine, but it's still got plenty of pop.

I've not had a chance to weigh it yet, though it feels light and even after only three flights today it's a keeper! It's just such a versatile airframe.

Stop, you're twisting my arm! Think I'm going to go in this direction too.

Looking good Wadders single pack is just cool. We experimented with a chopped down Dune in Norfolk using a Pyro 600 and 6s 550mm blades. Worked really well here is the first flight.

Kasama Dune 550 (1 min 20 sec)

Here is a pic from a few years ago when Kasama was popular between a few of us. The 550 is the nearest one. Great Helis :-)

Thanks Maj, that video was part of my inspiration! The Srimoks in that pic look good. Now that this Dune is sorted, I'm going to build a new Srimok

I was going to run 550 blades with the stock length boom, but I didn't want it to look out of proportion. The beauty of the 570 blades is that the disc doesn't look too much small than 600s, but the chord size is the same as 550 blades. So hopefully there won't be too much extra load and turn the heli into a pack killer.

I have those same blades on the Beam now but have not flown it yet. It worked pretty well with Align 550s but I liked it better with 600s so the 570s are hopefully the 'just right' inbetween size.

My Dune weighs about 3.45 kg with the 4000mah packs. So prob a bit less with 3700s or something like the Zippy compacts that are very light. ----edit, just realised yours are 7s, so probably not lighter than my 6s 4000s.---

The packs I have are kinda low C rating though because I bought them to use as 12s pairs on the bigger helis. But at the headspeed I'm running on Dune, they work fine. (if memory serves I think I'm getting about 1750 ish which might seem low but the airframe is light enough that it has plenty of punch).

I have almost the exact same motor in the Beam but it's the Hyperion branded one, same specs though.

By the way, I think I have the shortened boom used in the video above (pretty sure it's the same one)

I've not flown SAB blades before and I've been pleasantly surprised with these 570s. I didn't weigh them or look at the CoG, so not sure how they compare to Rails etc.

The 3700 7s Revo packs weigh on average just over 700g and when they're on the top battery mount, as far forward as possible on the straps, the CoG is perfect.

I personally wouldn't want to use smaller packs, as it already feels floaty light and the flight time is around four minutes.

I didn't weigh those blades either, my guess is they may be a little lighter than Rails. So far I have had mixed experiences with SABs, I have some 720s on my Raptor gasser that fly really well but I had a pair of 690s that I got with the airframe that were terrible. So it's good to hear you're liking the 570s.

As I already did a whole Dune 6s thread I won't repeat myself too much but I'll just say, I was so pleased at how well it works on 6s and it's so much more convenient to be able to share packs with the bigger helis.
