servo travel / swash mix H550
Quick question..what are you guys using for servo travel in your (swash mix)..
I currently run: DX7 AILE - 75% ELEV + 75% PIT + 75% EXP INH I think I might be a little high so I was wondering what works for others.. Thanks.. |

i run a futaba 6ex, and my mixes are at 50%. any more then this and i get wicked interactions and binding.

YOU CANNOT COMPARE NUMBERS FROM JR/SPEKTRUM TO FUTABA.
You should set your swash mixes using a pitch gauge, and you get what you get. I run about +/-12 degrees on my collective pitch and 7 degrees for cyclic (elevator and aileron).

Aile -60% Elev +60% Pit. +60% With is I get -10 +10 |

On my DX7 i'm running 60% 60% 70% pitch. Gets about +10 -10

Ok.. I flew at 50% and 60 % today and I must say that 60% is the magic number for me.. I have better cyclic control and the heli seemed a bunch smoother..
The only issue I have is that the Heli doesn't start to lift until a little more than 3/4 stick.. Thanks for all the replies.. |

You need to set the head up with a pitch gauge to get the proper settings.
If you set up with 0 pitch at mid stick, you will hover close to 3/4 stick.

Is it normal for the heli to either be close to the ground or way up in the air? With my Trex 450 and my Hurri, it's either skid sliding or kite flying.. How can I have it approx.10 feet or so above head level so I can start working on other techniques? it's either too high or too low..

Change your TC and PC. I have mine set at TC at 75% (mid stick) 85% (two clicks above mid stick) and PC at 50% (mid stick) 63% (two clicks above mid stick) just past the mid stick. It lifts at this setting. I hope this helps you.

Soften your normal PC curve little...in normal.
Post what you are using for PC and TC in normal and Idle 1. Everyone likes a little different feel but you do not need full neg pitch in normal and you could use less than full + pitch and it wouldn't hurt.. for a PC in N I use 30% 38% 50% 78% 100% you could use a little less on the 4th and 5th point.... TC is 0% 50% 85% 90% 90% I like to get HS up right away... If you have any experienced heli flyers around...have them check your set up out and they could really help you set it up. If not don't be afraid to paly with both curves...you can always set it back the way it was. |

this all is confusing to say the least, especially to someone like me with no rc aircraft experience. all these mixes and percentages make my head spin! about the only thing that i can tell that upping the swash mixes does is gives the servoes way more throw and travel. i'm sure it does more then that, but in playing with the %'s that's all i can see it does with my limited experience. i watched bob's ccpm vids, but he doesn't go too far into the mixes. anyone know of other vids that might go deeper into the subject, or maybe someone can explain it in simple terms? thanks.

My PC and TC's are pretty basic and I got most of them from the Finless vid's.
Norm: TC 0-65-80-90-100 PC 40-45-50-75-100 Idle 1; TC 100-95-90-95-100 PC 0-25-50-75-100 Idle 2: TC 100-100-100-100-100 PC 0-25-50-75-100 I've setup the Idle-up setting but have never ever ever dared to use them while flying. Also, I am all alone here and have no one to fly with or show me any tips so I look to you guys for all the help. There are a couple of clubs not too far away but I haven't been to either of them. I've learned how to hover and FFF and backwards by just going out and crashing until I got it. I also have some generally good equipment on my bird but it's really pointless if I can't use any of it.. lol The sim to me is almost useless and I learned to hover in all directions before even opening the CD's.. Anyway, I appreciate all the help. I'll be stick banging by springtime.. |

Your #'s look pretty basic... Are you using any EXPO ? You may try that or increasing it a little...it will make the heli a little "softer" on the controls. It seems like it may just have to come with practice... Try Idle up 1...it makes FFF a little smoother...because all your controlling is the pitch...the headspeed stays more constant....it won't really be much different than what your used to now.....if you figure your flying FF in the 50 - 75% pitch range then in normal you TC is 80 - 90% in idle up it will be 90%. The only bad thing about IU is if you hit the ground the motor keeps trying to spin... Your Normal curve is fine for flying though... |

in general it doesn't really matter what your curves look like but they are a guideline for setting your actual pitch curve. just make sure you get a +10 and -10 or + 11 and -11 and at half stick you are at 0, I always set my pitch curves totally liniar, except my normal curve, I adjust my lowest point to be-4 then I adjust my throttle curve to maintain the RPM I want, I start with my idle up 1, I then set my normal to pretty much match my idle 1 except it goes from 0-100, I don't like a big jump from idle 1 to normal, but then again I never fly in normal, as soon as the skids leave the dirt I am in idle 1,then I set my throttle hold to 0 this is my crash fail safe, practice hitting this hold button on landing so when you do crash you are quick to react to hit the hold so you kill the power! I always set all my helis pretty much identical by the pitch gauge, the radio #s will differ but everyone of them fly almost identical with stick movements.
