Default TREX 150 FAQ + Mod List

Disclaimer, this is NOT my original work. Every piece of info came from this forum, Align, the internet and your fellow HeliFreaks! Any modification you make is on you. No warranty is implied with this gathered list of tweaks, mods and info.

Align TREX 150

Align's smallest and most petite 3D helicopter T-Rex 150 DFC, carries the same superior pedigree and design concept that originated from the successful T-Rex line of helicopters. Featuring strong power, superior flight control stability, and equipped with high end components, far exceeding any other helicopters currently on the market.

Twin brushless motor design, paired with 2s 7.4v 250mah battery, creating power that will surpass all your expectations. Metal DFC main rotor head assembly featuring high end aesthetic and superior flight performance; in addition, an integrated control system with specially optimized 3-axis gyro, receiver, electronic speed controller, and 4g servos. All of these enable the T-Rex 150 DFC to possess the same stability, superior agility, and tail holding effectiveness as the larger helicopters.

T-Rex 150 features built in Futaba S-FHSS 2.4Ghz system, and support the use of Spektrum DSM2/DSMX / JR DSM2/DSMJ/DMSS satellite receivers. To get the T-Rex 150 airborne, all that’s needed is inputting of parameters listed in manual into your transmitter, and binding of your transmitter.

Miniature size, control precision that resembles the larger helicopters, enables you to enjoy flying inside a confined space. Beginners can even enjoy this with ease by just turning down the speed dial. The innovative breakthrough T-Rex 150 will bring you a new dimension of flying enjoyment.

Head:
Members have posted that adding additional spacers on the feathering spindle decreases any play, applies more pressure to the dampers and allows you to turn gain up higher.

BLHELI mod: Note this voids your warranty.
BL HELI is a test flash right now to work through issues.
BLHELI can be flashed to the ESC for both main and tail motor.
It'll give you computer programmable options.

Blheli is code first written specifically for double brushless micro helis. The main has a soft spool up and governor, with adjustable gains.

The tail has very fast response, both accelerating and decelerating the motor, and holds the tail motor at an idle speed for several seconds after it sees a 0 throttle signal to avoid the tail stopping in flight under certain conditions.

Pwm, timing, gain, lvc, startup method and power, low and high ppm signal range and a lot more are adjustable.

Recommended tweaks out of the box:
-Metal swashplate. Plastic one has a tendency to separate.
-Servo saver mod. Protects the servo gears. Have spare set of gears and arms just in case. Link: https://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=602182
-001 o-rings on all head, servo and swash balls. Link: https://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=599996
-Re-level MRS unit. Stock install seems to be coming crooked from the factory. Do NOT strap down or let it touch the actual frame.

Link: https://www.helifreak.com/showpost.p...postcount=2612
-Balance and dynamically balance your blades. Or at least balance and CG your blades if you find you cannot dynamically balance. This heli does NOT like any vibrations at all. https://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=592897

Other goodies members have done:
Easier insertion of batteries: https://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=596094

Potential tweaks:
CF main shaft. Stock aluminum one reported to bend easily in crash.
Servo gears. Probably best to have at least 1 spare set on hand.

Parts:
Reported that MCPX BL feathering spindle is a match.
Main Drive Gear H11011. Same as TREX 100
Bearings in the blade grips are 681ZZ-d2. Same bearings found in the DFC arm of TREX 250 and 450 if you need one in a hurry. 2mmx4.5mmx2mm
Shaft bearing, H63 Bearing H11021, same as TREX 100

Set pitch: Use micro pitch gauge, or fold blades flat and measure the angle between them at high and low. EX: for 12* pitch, fold blades together, put into full pos collective, measure blades with protractor. You should get 24* do same for neg collective.
Example photo of a micro homemade pitch gauge.

Hopefully this helps someone. If you see something you want added or changed, let me know.

I spent a bit of time compiling the tidbits from various threads into 1 spot to help someone/anyone to find stuff easier. It's easy to misplace good threads with info.

Very cool. Thanks for putting this together and let's get an admin to sticky it ASAP.

What's the latest scoop on mounting the MRS. I know you want to make sure it's straight and not rubbing on anything. But is 3M 4011 tape sufficient? Or does is really need that spongy stuff that comes on it stock?

Couple of options added to main post.

-Re-level MRS unit. Stock install seems to be coming crooked from the factory. Do NOT strap down or let it touch the actual frame.

Default Older vs. newer version

Is it safe to assume that buying one now will get the desirable newer version, or is it possible or likely that there are still older units lurking out there?

I can say it's safe if you get it from AlignTrexStore.com. I'm not sure about anywhere else since they're usually not very good about keeping their product descriptions up to date.

As far as I know it is. I got this one that came bundled with the metal swashplate...

And the one on the helicopter appears to be exactly the same.

I just received mine earlier this week from aligntrexstore.com and the frame on it is exactly the same as the new one that comes in the bag with the aluminum swash that I bought separate. So it seems they do have the latest version as advertised.

Mine was latest version from local hobby store that just got them in. Was able to check, thanks to this forum, before spending the cash.

No spares carried there yet.

Thanks for the info. I'm trying hard not to buy another helicopter.

Do you have a 130X? If so how do you think the DFC's flight performance compares to the 130X?

I actually don't own a 130X, but I have flown a few. I've been able to resist that urge because I've seen so many people at our club and on these forums having trouble with the upkeep. I normally fly at a large AMA field so I much prefer larger helicopters. My 300X is really my go to "micro" heli. I don't have a whole lot of need or high expectations for small micro helicopters. What I typically use them for is practice when I can't get out the field or when traveling. I have an mCPX BL and have had my share of electrical issues with it which is why I'm giving the T150 a try. It's more of a direct comparison to the mCPX BL than it is to the 130X.
