Default How low can you go?

Hey,

Wondering what the lowest head speed you guys have tried on your various machines?

I dialed my E6 down to 960 rpms (with Rail 626 blades) this morning and flew it down the flight line a few times.

A bad wind gust at the wrong time and I don't think I could have stopped it from hitting the dirt. landing was pretty much an auto rotation with no extra lift available.

Anybody go much lower?

Depends on what you wanna do. When I bolt VTX 717s on my 690 and fly 6S, it will hover in ground effect at 593rpm. It's unpleasant to have absolutely no lift overhead though.

I have gotten my TDR down to 900ish with zeal 710 and KBDD 710... Still can flip and roll it with very careful collective management...

I try to stay in the 1000-1200 range for everyday flying.. And i settled on KBDD blades, they are quieter...

I fly the Compass 7HVU / Chronos 3-blade at 980 - 1030 rpm with 6S pack. Flips and rolls very happily at this head-speed.

The absolute lowest, just for hovering, is seriously low. I had a Rave ENV and was trying a new motor that had some kind of problem and what would happen is that under any kind of load the headspeed would drop and just stay there, regardless of the throttle position (probably an issue in the winding termination or something).

Anyway, it got so low that I was literally amazed it could remain airborne (just a hover mind you). I could almost see the blades as they went around, it was crazy.

Great info guys, sounds like I am right in the same range as you folks.

As expected, looks like you can go a little lower with a 700 setup than a 600. I turned the speed back up to about 1250, and it fly's pretty good at that speed.

I've managed to cruise around @ 760 HS without any issue.
Should tinker with dropping down below 700.

Don't you have a 800+ size heli?

That's still super low

My 'normal' 12s setup on the HD750 is about 850, 1300, 1600 and 1900 rpm with 12s lipo. Following video I was playing with 850 and 1250 rpm using a 6s 4300 mAh lipo. I did try down to 640 rpm a few weeks ago but no way to do any aerobatic flying at that low rpm. Minimum where I feel comfortable is 800 rpm for aerobatic and 700 for cruising around.

HD750 on 6s (6 min 59 sec)

Great video, the part at 850 rpm was nice to see, I don't think my E6 could do that at 950.

May have to re-investigate that though, you have laid down the challenge!

I actually like that sound, one of the reasons I like low head speeds, sounds more realistic.

Hi I have been easily sport zing basic smooth stuff with HV6 on 6s at 900-1000 rpm with 20min flights on a 8000mah zippies. Have to compensate for tail on torque climb outs n harder banking, turning, flips etc. it's fun sounds great and full sold on LHS. Working with scale LHS on a Huey 412 with HV6 config mechs also... Not enough power with 6s easy 12s at 70% Throttle aprox 1150rpms flat T nice visually but spongy and compensating ff all gliding n autorotations but very realistic scale flying n sounds for LHS times")

A yea and HV6 6s on 2 blades great 4bladehead even better but with torque issue sorted with flat Throttles. Fuse on 4 bladehead awesome after extra slow spool up.

Well, I threw on some Cyclone 615 blades and ran them at 960. They definitely generate more lift than the Rails.

Could actually fly it around confidently, was a big difference.

Any other good low head speed blades?

I have my 700 Diabolo running between 950 and 1100. Have to be easy on the collective at 950. So much fun though. Can't wait to be home again to fly.

Have you been reading about the VTXs? They look to be very good at
LHS. There is a video in the Mikado section w. them on a 690.

I will be trying at least a pair.......hopefully on the market soon.

I use kbdd 710s with confidence at 900-950 and 1200-1250.. Only thing that limits for as low as i can go is the tail... Have to run 112+ to keep the tail in check....

I tried a single 6s 5000 Lipo in the Agile 7.2 with Cyclone 715s... 10 minutes at 950rpm... managed a couple of flips..... amazing sound
