Probably not

I just did the figures you are going to end up with a headspeed somewhere around 2000 RPM which is probably too slow and to make up for the lack of headspeed you are probably giving it too much pitch.

If you have a read of what Andy01 wrote, to aim for between 2200rpm and 2470rpm
so you would need a 13t pinion

The only way too know for sure is to give it a go.

Yep I agree and I will change back to 13 tooth tomorrow and see....I certainly need more head speed. The thing that gets me is that I have good head speed on the ground but it drops a lot (albeit less now) at take off...like the motor is under powered...and it seems like a larger pinion would decrease that power more...like taking off in 4th gear on a motorcycle...

Thanks again, oz!

Thanks to all involved in this thread....I made full circle: put the 13 tooth pinion back on and VOILA, the heli flew perfectly, head speed with virtually no bog at lift off. I was convinced the motor or batteries were not strong enough, but no. After all this it seems it came down to calibrating the esc and/or setting the throttle max endpoint all the way up. My other electric helis fly fine as do the nitros, and so I had never touched the throttle travel endpoint menu..I figured 100% meant that's all there is...but 150 is max on the 9303. I can rest now lol..thanks again!

At least I learned a lot...so that's something!

That seems to be the ticket...with 2700kv motor and 13 tooth pinion this apache flies around about as effortlessly as the bare trex did with the 3550. good luck!

Bikersurgeon,
Which 2700 kv motor are you using is it the one from HK? http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...or_2700kv.html
Did you change anything on the SE or still using stock parts? Can you share your final setup i.e. ESC, main rotor head(2 or 4 blades), tail blades, gyro, servo.
I read somewhere some guys tried changing the gear on the tail boom block(14 or 16 tooth gear i think). But if you are successful w/ all the stock parts other than changing the motor, i might try it also. I have an SE with all the stock parts that i can use for this build.

Greetings, Joel,

The motor says "detrum" on it...I have ordered a ton of stuff lately but I am 99%sure I ordered it from hobby partz (from blade runners link on post 2 of this thread). It required larger bolts than align so drilling the motor mount holes is necessary but easy. Shafts are the same so the 13 tooth pinion swap is plug and play. The gyro is a futaba 401. Esc is stock align (35 amp I think). Head is the copterx 4blade flapping hinge with RCA semisymmetric scale blades. Tail gearing is unchanged. The tail rotor is the CNC 4 blade that required a little disassembly to flip the grips...this was to allow proper travel of the pitch slider since tail rotor was flipped 180 degrees to face leftward.

Cheers!

Thanks Bikersurgeon,
That's lots of useful information.
