Sakkarin Kongthon or CD (Compact Dude) came 5th at 3D Cup and has a shed load of potential. He was flying some crazy, uncommon moves. I wouldn't be surprised in a year or two if he's the best in the world as he's grown up learning to fly (from 3 years old if I recall correctly - I believe his dad has posted on HF before). 10 years of this will pay big dividends for him IMHO.
Kyle Stacy just pipped Dunkan Bossion and Kyle Dahl at 3D Cup as well. There are a lot of great flyers: Tareq is always awesome but can he really do the comp level stuff to the current standard (I don't think so), Bert K seems like a decent bloke and great showman/flyer but he doesn't seem to be near the pace or even wanting to be near it. Jamie Robinson is fantastic and Nick Maxwell is always impressive. On a good day, any of the top guys can win. I think Tareq has such a good following because he just releases cool vids online, doesn't compete and has totally nailed his own style of flying.

Jamie Robertson is number one. He has proven it time and time again. His flying is precise and the heli is always in postion. Hiroki Ito is also very good and has dominated the FIA flying comps for years. Once again heli in postion all the time. Kyle Stacy would be my next choice. He is also very good and can throw it. The things I look for tho is prolly different than most ppl. I look for things like if they do a maneuver that has a 360 degree piro in it that it is 360 degrees not 365. Same goes for a flip or anything else that is done and that the heli is centered and not off to a side or anything like that. That is the thing that stands out the most about the guys above. Their precision is far and above anyone elses.

See what this proves. As stated five years ago, it depends on what style you like to watch and you will choose who you like from there.

Top 3 Best RC Heli pilots today....who are they???
I think this sums it up:
All 3 pilots are great, Kyle Stacy's accuracy and technical skills are my personal favorite.

It's impossible to pick just 3 guys from all the great pilots out there, singer who don't even compete, also it's been said that it depends on what YOU like to see, anyone can beat anyone on any given day, you also can't go by what the judges say either, bc I'm sure everyone is biased one way or another! But for me, my favorite pilot is Dunkan Bossion!

The best by far is Alan Szabo.
Second is Tareq Alsaadi. Third is a toss up between a handful of pilots. |

I think we have to separate the "Amazing to watch pilots" and the best from a judges point of view. Pilots like Dunkan, Szabo and Bert are amazing to watch, they get very low, but they often can't do the same technical maneuvers with the level of precision that pilots like the Kyles can.
That aside, I'd have to say my top 3 are: Kyle Dahl Kyle Stacy Marius Müller (Tareq is still the King)

I thought this when I was newer at flying. I'm not sure if Alan is flying/practicing like he used to. He still flies well, but I'm just not seeing new moves from him anymore. Though I do like his flights. Tareq is still a monster, but not flying like he was when he was in the competition scene. My favorite to watch is Kyle Dahl. He really is a master of all orientations. All the other competition guys are tons of fun to watch too. But whenever I'm trolling youtube for videos, I always find myself looking for the latest by Kyle Dahl |

I prefer "new Tareq" to "old Tareq".
I think his flying is more interesting, varied and "bigger" these days, but he can still fly a 700 in a tiny space like no other. My favourite pilots who if possible, I'll never miss a Youtube video of, are Nick Maxwell, Marius Muller, Dunkan Bossion. Not necessarily because they're the "best" but I like their style(s) of flying. Very close to them are Kyle Dahl and Kyle Stacy. Totally different styles, yet both as good as each other. Bert Kammerer. Not usually very technical, but always looks like he's flying at the limit, even when he isn't. At 3D Cup the other week, the pilot that had my jaw on the floor the most was young Sakkarin (CD) Kongthon. He's just epic. Just before he crashed in the freestyle I think I saw him do every variation of a piro tic tic. Left rudder, right rudder, disc in, left, out, and right, all at crazy speed and on the deck.

Well, my sister-in-law's name is Jen Brandt, but that's not her in the vid... but why are so many only focusing on competitions? I guess that's where most people get well known, but they are hardly the only ones who fly well. For example. I don't compete mostly because I feel that my spool-up procedure would put you all to shame, and don't want to embarrass anyone.

Tareq! Unbelievable stick movement. I still remember that video he made with his Gaui x7 2:00am under a street light doing hardcore 3D. His style his very twitchy, and unpredictable. Almost like he's trying to tear his heli apart.
I enjoy Szabo for his smooth flying and beautiful routines. Plus he gives great advice on FB. |
