Default Is this play normal in the flange bearing retainer thingy?

Working on a friends TDR 2. I discovered this part flipping a bit. Manual says it will have some play but this seems excessive. I would expect this to cause some vibes or something.

Mine was similar, albeit a little less.
It didn't really have an impact on vibes nor on the functionality.
Some people even fly without it.

Hmmm.....not my heli so I will leave it there. I will shim it. I am still trying to understand what it actually does.

Oh yes. I did see that part, but a really strange way to implement it. It they call it a flange bearing retainer or something. The two sides that hook the shaft and tail pulley.

It only supports the belt guide pulleys, has nothing to do with bearing retention. Designed to be loose.

it's not a problem as it is.
shim it if you like but allow some movement don't make it tight.

The point of the design is that the belt should barely touch the bearings at low to medium speed (or even not at all cause at those revs there is no need for them to prevent the belt from slipping)
Only at high revs where the belt on the top side gets under high tension and the bottom side comes looser and wants to drift away from the pulley the bearings get into action to prevent the belt from slipping

Shimming won't take out the for/aft movement of the two hooks holding the bearings.

No need to worry, just fly the machine and you' ll see for yourself

Best

I've got play too, but I can't hear anything in the air and it hasn't been an issue. Jan has a note about this that says it is fine.

Thanks guys. Like I said not my machine so I am going through it with a fine tooth comb. I see in the manual Jan says a bit of play is normal. I just wasn't sure how much. If you guys say what I posted in the video is fine then I am ok with that.
