Default 15t or 16t Pinion

What's the popular opinion on the 250 pinion?

I have a 250SE under the tree and am seriously wondering if I should just bite the bullet and install a 16t right off the bat. From reading the forum it would increase cyclic response and lessen the need for tons of collective coming out of FFF but will it make it too squrrily compared to my Trex 500? One person has gone to the 16t pinion and installed DuBro collars on the flybar to tame it down. Is this a good idea?

Cheers

MJ

I have a 15T and you don't need to add much collective, just a tiny amount. Who said you need tons? I am going to add a 16T at some stage as It does make it more stable. I also have honeybee flybar weights and they work very well.
Nice xmas present

Craig.

I have the 16T, but it still bogs. At this moment I'm still researching why.

Mine may be down to a worn motor? It's second hand so don't know how much use it's had.

I bet he sold it due to the problems it had, because I have spent almost 4 months on it between saving up for new parts. The head is kind of ok now, the frame is perfect, but the tail still causes me problems. For as far as I know, electric motors don't wear out. You can only demagnetize them, but thats due to heat. Maybe the oneway is crapping out on me.

Mine flys fine, there's just quite a drop in rpm when I hit the pitch hard. Must say though, the tail doesn't move, not even a slight wag when I do this. I got it VERY cheap and I am very happy. I think it's a V1, I have no idea what upgrades were done on the tail.

I have the V1 too, and really cheap too. Just 55E for the kit with controller and motor. I haven't found whats wrong with it though.

I got mine for £50. Just needed a gyro. So all up, cost £160 with 2 batteries.

What's wrong with yours then, just the bogging? What is your swash mix at? I'm at 60%

Its bogging, but not too bad. The main problem is that it occasionally starts piroettting out of nowhere. Its either the belt or the oneway I suspect.

Is it a fast piro? If you hold the main blades, can you turn the tail blades easily? The problem with heli's is, it could be so many things. Dodgey gyro, tail servo even. I'd have thought the belt would show itself if you added pitch quickly. It would slip then and the tail would kick out.
Vibration can affect the gyro to.

Its been a fast piro only once, but the rest of the time it just starts piroetting slowly. This probably tells me something is slipping.

I'd have thought pumping the throttle would show a slip

I have the 15t on the stock se, my buddy has a 16t, If I were doing it over I an not sure what i would do! I love the way mine flies but his rolls and flips so tight and quicker then mine! he does tic-tocs with ease. Although I will say even with the 15t you don't need to over work the sticks at all, it is still very quick! but going with the 16t you loose flight time!!!!!! I think he is down to about 3.5-4 minutes of 3D
