Default neu 1706 1.5y motor

Dear Helifreaks,

Currently im running zippy 3300packs 20cwith a scorpion 1400kv engine.

I fly for about 4:30 and put back in about 2600mah (hard 3d on 15T)
The problem with my current setup is that the heli feels too heavy (538grams for the zippy 200 for the scorpion)
Total flightweight is 1975grams

I'm wondering about the neu 1706 1.5y motor. Ive read that its more powerfull then stock. And combine it with a 2200mah 30cV-plus XP batt (~330grams battery 150 engine)

I hope that becouse of the weight loss the heli will still have a good amount of pop and not bog much.
Will i get about 4:30 sec outof my new setup? running 16T on 1706?

Is there anything else im forgetting? are there any modifications to be done to the motor mount to fit the engine?(i heard the pinion wont fit otherwise) any other recomendations?

Thanks

Yes you have to mod unless you source a very small pinion somewhere.

The original Align or RC screws are too long so you either need to buy smaller ones or improvise like I did with nuts and washers.

Power consumption is a little less than the stock motor on a 16T and a little more on 17T. It's of course a lot better than that ridiculous scorpion lipo killer but there are more efficient motors out there. This is how it flies with a Vstabi and a 17T pinion:

I have both a Neu1706H/1.5Y and a medusa 36-50-1300V2.

The Medusa wins hands down in the efficiency stakes but looses at the scales. The Medusa with its necessary heatsink is about 100g heavier than the Neu.

I feel the heli flies just as well with either motor!

The Medusa is much easier on batteries, for the same 6 minute flight the Medusa uses 1300mAh and the Neu uses 1600mAh.

I had a failure of my Neu 1706H/1.5Y on the weekend.

During a full pitch inverted maneuver the motor shaft broke

Damage was fairly minimal apart from the motor. I am waiting on a reply from Neu about getting it fixed, but in the mean time I have reinstalled the Medusa.

I am not sure if this was caused by me running it on 8S and having a small (12 tooth) pinion. But as can be seen it broke through a hole that is drilled through the shaft.

Mick, Are you using the motors with a 6s battery and what Pinion?
Thanks, Albert

Mick, Thanks for the info. If I run a 6S I would need the Medusa 36-50-1600V2, Right?
Thanks again, Albert
