Default ECX 1/18 Ruckus use LiPo?

Hey all,

I am looking to get a miniature R/C Monster truck for my son for Christmas..

I was hoping to find one with a brushless motor and LiPo battery, but it seems all of them use brushed motors and NiMH batteries..

So far the ECX 1/18 Ruckus seems to be the best choice, unless someone can suggest something else?

I would like to use a LiPo battery with whichever model I get, but I'm assuming if it comes with a NiMH battery, it probably doesn't have the LVC needed to run LiPo's correct?

My son is only 5, so with out a LVC I know he would end up running the LiPo down beyond it's safe voltage..

Thanks,

-TheChad

My son just got a 1/18 Ruckus. It's a great little truck and it will run on LiPo but does not have LVC. My LHS had a little circuit board that you could install that would make a sound when LVC was reached but wouldn't kill power. Would be fine for my 10 year old, don't know about your 5 year old. Only problem is the board wasn't waterproof and that was a big selling point on the Ruckus.

I'll probably run MiHH for a while then upgrade the receiver, ESC, and go brushless and LiPo all at once.

EDIT: just noticed this was half a year old. Oh, well - info may still be relevant.

Smile How long can you use the battery for

Totally appreciate the response to that questions, even if it is a year on. How long did the stock battery actually last i.e. NiMH when driving the car. I also have a 5 year old. My concern is the charging time vs run time.

Or at least ensuring I have enough batteries to last 20 mins.
