Default Tail pushrod guide is it really needed?

Having opened up the guide to allow my pushrod to run freely, the guide is fairly pointless really?. The pushrod seems to just rub on the bottom part of the guide, and the belt is only about 8mm or so from the top of the guide which makes me a bit twitchy of it catching it.

My question is why is it really needed?

Ive been wondering the same thing. I took mine out for a day of flying and didnt seem to notice any difference but got paranoid about it and put it back in. But I did use a dremel and modify it a little bit and open it up some so my pushrod wouldnt rub on it so much. I feel better about it now

The thing I did notice with no guide was an annoying vibration sound which I spose was the pushrod rattling against the inside of the boom. I dremelled the hell out of the guide, especially the bottom and side to make it as low profile as possible to avoid the bend of the pushrod when it gets to the extremes, then put it back on. All good now.

Yep. You could get a vibration without it. May not hurt, but I don't like it. "Dremelled" mine too. No Probs. It really needs to be redesigned IMO.

Running without it. No problems at all. It is unnecessary IMHO.

Raisen, I'm using a chain saw sharpening stone to enlarge the opening where the rod passes through. It's about 1/8' in diameter and 1 1/2' long. works perfectly and enlarges the guide enough so there is very little resistance. The rod rubs on the bottom near the boom.

Took mine out, hasn't made a noticeable difference, although, by hand - it does feel smoother.
