I have a suggestion, how about a 3D printed tail hub? Instead of a solid hub it could be a teetering tail like the Goblin 380 uses. The hub block would have a hole in it that the shaft is pressed/glued into and there would be a common spindle and dampers like a main rotor head. Because the tail spindle floats on rubber dampers it reduces the strain on the tail. Most implementations of this style of tail also have some delta-3 to correct for dissymmetry of lift in the tail rotor which further reduces stress on the tail hub and bearings (SAB uses something like a 15 degree offset on the tail grip links). Note also that this type of tail requires link balls on the tail grips because the grips and spindle must be able to teeter slightly which isn't compatible with links that are restricted to being parallel with the tail grips and slider.
In addition to the performance improvement this type of tail allows for some bearing preload to be designed into the grips because the dampers can be compressed slightly which yields tight stop free tail grips. |

Anyone use 3dHubs for their parts? How much do the parts from ShapeWays cost?
Looks like about $100 in parts on 3dHubs.

hey guys,
a few more questions, please (I hope this thread isn't dead): -what kind of bearing should I use to join the two swash plate halves? -I see that the main blade grips look different in some photos. Are you guys using blade grips from another brand? -is someone printing the heli in abs or nylon? thanks.

The Smooth, thick version of the grips is new and considerably stiffer than the old version with the support ridges on top and bottom. Just didn't redo the renders as it's quite tedious. It's not recommended to print this heli out of filament, and afaik no one has ever tried it. I'd be concerned about blade grip ejection. The recommended process is to order at shapeways

hello Jonas,
thanks a lot. what does "M2 locknuts and M2x4/6/8/10/12/16/20 bolts" mean exactly? how many of each length? thanks again.

http://www.oblivion-heli.com/index.php/getting-started/ My experience that this bearing size is available with more then one inner ball size. So please order 1 or more from different suppliers. To be honest, I bought a massive ball and drilled the hole. |

So apparently Chris had released a V2 a while back and Jonas is testing out a stretched to 360 mm blades version of this.
I'm looking into this again. everything else (other than the MaxiR/Ricco) just don't come close. Bought a Forza 450Ex but sold it after I weighed everything.... This looks like a project that is worth spending money on, and locally I can find SLS 3D printing services available already. Likely to take a dive in this. Once again, many thanks to Chris and Jonas again . ( Actually I really was a fan of microheli.net for its the focus and selection on 3D helis and pocket 3D machines that made sense... kudos. ) Btw, anyone had any luck fitting in a one way in this or is it not needed? At this kind of rotor loading would be cool to auto??
