250 Lynx dampeners - Cyclic Wobble
I upgraded my dampeners. They were starting to show signs of needing replaced, when i removed them they were incredibly soft, so why not change them for rigid dampeners.
The lynx dampeners are more expensive but you get a set of 2 so it balances out and they last longer win win??? Not really. My heli was flying fine before as far as i could tell. When i first installed the dampeners with 2 shims, the grip bearings felt notchy, so went with 1 each side but there was a tiny amount of play. Test flown it and cyclic was weird and wobbly. particulary with quick sharp inputs. it hovered fine though as if everything was fine. So i reshimed it with 2 a side, now it didnt feel notchy and no play. great tha tmust be the problem... nope. Its improved but is stil a little wierd on quick cyclic inputs, aileron wobbles alot more than elevator. its like high gain but gain doesnt effect it. My swash plate is a bit sloppy so going to try preloading it and that will eliminate that. I also made sure my bar is not moving, i had it decased and mounted on mounting foam tape, thought that was causing it as the board wasnting getting a good bond with the tape, fixed it with hot glue in the corners.. Nope still wobles and feels weird ont he cyclic. My next point is the dfc swash which has a fair amount of slop in it. If thats the cause im going back to the stock dampeners. If i start flying this heli more often ill have to replace the swash plate every week. Any ideas? Another thing i noticed is i seem to be able to tilt the whole head/mainshaft left and right but that may just be the mainshaft flexing/play in the bearings (the bearings are brand new just replaced and only hovered for 5 minutes) Theres a fraction of up/down play int he mainshaft but not enough to cause any issues. a shim would just bind up the OWB. Ive got the OWB working so well that i managed to float it down from 6 feet up (by accident) Ill be putting in an order for a few parts for a 450 thats coming, so il just stick the stock dampneres in aswell if thats the case |

Strange, I would expect lowering cyclic gain to fix it. If it flew fine before it has to be the dampers if that's all you changed.
They might just need to break in a bit

I ended up emailing lynx to see what they said. obviously im a little disapointed as ive read several people say that they made a decent improvement not a step back. And they have improved other helis aswell. Dont really want to spend £18 to get a new swashplate have it be fine for a few flights until it loosens up and becomes sloppy. Thats what happened to my current swash. When i "upgraded" to DFC the swash had zero play, after about 5 flights it loosened up and now after some number of flights is pretty sloppy. Its like its stretching |

I also some serious wobbles with the Lynx dampeners, more like resonant cyclic oscillations, as it were. This thread does a great job of documenting my experience:

first have shows what happens with aileron inputs. 2nd have is it in a hover with minimal/no inputs I dont get it, its smooth in a hover with no control input. but wobbles like the gain is too high even at 20 but only on aileron. elevator seems smooth. Sometimes it also looks like there is some interaction going on, like it tilts diagonally instead of left/right its not the gyro moving, i mad esure of that with hot glue on the corners, i cannot move the board at all |

That looks a lot like what mine did, but not as bad. At one point, mine got so bad that I still don't know why the links didn't just snap! In any case, after returning to the soft, Align dampeners and trading the Zeal blades for the Align CF blades, I had to slightly turn down the cyclic gain dial on my rx.

ive came across a few other people with similar problems, but i bet it has to do with aligns sloppy swash, im sure the soft dampeners hide the issues caused by sloppy components. its the only sloppy part in my setup everything else is tight. |
