Default Ground Station tour

Hi all heres a quick tour of my ground station, Ive just got to the point of finishing all my ground range tests with new Thomas near range rc link which can reach aprox 5-8 km. and have about 80% range. While I wait for for some good weather here in the UK I thought I'd post a quick vid.
Enjoy although quite short.

The case is a bare unit from Maplins in the UK and every thing else is hand built.

Hi Liam. How hard was it to install the long range transmitter system? And how are your antennas mounted? Very clean setup! 5.8? 900 MHz?

Cheers hockeymonkeymark Im running 1.2ghz video tx and my Thomas long range ( actually near range) rx was easy to fit into the the heli's body as it's slightly smaller than a standard rx. I have the Thomas near range tx fitted into the back of my Fuataba 9c, I had to rip apart a 35mhz module and solder up to the pins inside so as they line up correctly to the tx pins. I also soldered a small relay so as I can run dirrect with the Futaba tx's main battery. Some people have pulled power direct through the module but with the Thomas tx you have 3 power settings and if you try running the highest power (2 watts) then it can fry internal tracers inside the Futaba tx. I also had to do many tests to find best placement for video tx and other electrics on the heli as the Thomas rx range can be significantly reduced with rf noise. I have mine good enough for what range I will ever need now. It's about 95% over all range which should be good for 5k , not that I will ever get that far out.
The antenna on the near range rx is just a piece of wire approx 6" long which I have hanging down of the main body.
Regards Liam.

Very nice. I've been considering a Thomas long range setup. It looks like a lot of work though. Your station is very clean. Is it all 12v? Nice job! I've seen your trex500 on the fpvpilot.com site. Also impressive.

Hi Mark yes I am running everything on 12 v. I've got the near range system which just has a single antenna which just hangs over the side of the frame and in between the skids. It took alittle while to move equipment around so as no rf noise affected the UHF system but all is cool now. By the way it's a Trex 450 se v2 and here's the video which didn't appear above , I have since build a half dipole antenna and switched to another video Chanel and now I have no lines.

Great video Liam. I will have to read up on the Thomas system before I get one. I'm running a trex 450 v2 setup too. It's a blast to fly. i am hoping Santa brings me a Go pro 1080 for Xmas. Wink wink....for my 600 ESP. I ordered A bungie mount from crash9 to go with it.

I guess I need osd next. I'm running 900mhz video and 2.4 dx7. I'm getting really descent range but the Thomas setup would ease my tension level when I get far out.

We had an fpv meet here in the UK at Santa Pod drag strip. It was really cool to meet up and share some tips with each over. Some of the guys were flying with the Dragon link which is equally as good. I've got to get used to landing with my goggles on though as I nearly crashed earlier trying to look under the lenses to land. Practice practice ....
Regards Liam
Mark post some pics of your heli.

I'm interested in how people get on with the Go Pro cam on a heli as it's a very noisy cam and can interfear with Rc link especially UHF systems!

Anytime kind sir - I'm a fan of your rig so I follow it closely. When I build my FPV heli you can return ther favor - LOL. Unfortunately I have 2 FPV rigs to build before I can get to my Okto

Here's the latest recording from my ground station although it ended with a crash. I deinterlaced it with virtualdub and then played around on Sony Vegas Pro 9.

I understand what interlacing actually is, but what good does de-interlacing do?

Does it improve the vid somehow? What does it achieve?
