Life after NANO

Once you are comfortable flying NANO, I very highly recommend MCPX BL.

MCPX-BL a fantastic outdoor helicopter for taking you beyond the living room into school yard flying. MCPX BL is what every small field or schoolyard helicopter should be!

It's extremely powerful, very fast and a blast to fly. You can learn high speed flight and turns at a distance of about 50 yards. How to stop in a hurry. Stall turns, descending landing patterns, slowing from high speed and high altitude flight, approaches that naturally bring the helicopter tail in configuration for landing or hovering.

And if you are into Flipping, rolling, flying upside down!
MCPX BL has you covered.

After a little time flying Nano you will have no problem flying MCPX-BL.

My normal mode settings for BL.

Travel adjust everything is 100% accept pitch and it's 75% both ways!

Normal mode. Very tame for first few flights, rate switch position 0
Aileron 0 DR 50 Expo 30
Elevator 0 DR 50 Expo 30
Rudder 0 100 No Expo

Normal mode. A little more control authority for sport flying, rate switch position 1
Aileron 1 DR 65 Expo 30
Elevator 1 DR 65 Expo 30
Rudder 1 100 No Expo

Normal mode.
Throttle curve 0 60 80 80 80
Pitch curve 25 25 50 75 100 take note of reverse pitch, so when your up high you can push it down, just another tool in the tool box! But don't pull the collective down past 1/4 when flying in normal mode, you will shut the motor off and spin out.

My stunt mode settings

Stunt mode. Very tame rate switch position 0
Aileron 0 DR 50 Expo 30
Elevator 0 DR 50 Expo 30
Rudder 0 100 No Expo

Stunt mode. A little more control authority rate switch position 1
Aileron 1 DR 65 Expo 30
Elevator 1 DR 65 Expo 30
Rudder 1 100 No Expo

Throttle setting 80 80 80 80 80 in the Stunt section of throttle curve menu until you are used to the helicopter, then 100 100 100 100 100

Pitch curve menu, Stunt section 0 25 50 75 100

3D settings for DX6i are in the Manual.

Watch the tail. MCPX Bl has an adjustable tail gyro!
Service the main shaft and swash bearings first they will be dry!

Run the tail gyro about 90 and see how it feels! Adjust the gain up or down .5 at a time until it holds but does not wag. You should be able to go from hover to full up collective as fast as you can move the stick and the tail hold rock soled.

Do that outdoors as the helicopter vanishes! Look for it about 100' up climbing at 500 ft a minute.

A little MCPX-BL helicopter time, you will have no problem stepping into 450X class helicopter.
They fly the same only much more powerful & 10 times as fast.
Oh - they cost a lot more to fix after unscheduled landings!

Could you skip MCPX BL and go from Nano and fly 130X, 300X or 450X ?

Yes some guys manage this step and have little or no problem. It's up to the pilot to take an honest look at his or her skill level and make the appropriate decision!

Haha, this video is so exactly like me when I got mine. I was watching this video while waiting for mine to get delivered and I was like OK, this guy is a total douche, how hard can it be? Well, lesson learned... Took me over a week and several hours of simulator work to not look exactly like that guy.

I remember night after night after night. After everyone went to bed, I pushed the dinning room table into the living room over the coffee table so I had room.

First withCX2, MSR, 120SR and a ton of flight simulator time!
Then came MCPX and what a night mare that was
Took a little time and a lot of patients. I don't think there is a thing in my house without MCPX blade dings in it.

The video of the guy learning to fly was awesome. Good information on the rest of the post as well.

When I got my first heli it was a blade CP pro. I was too stubborn to get the training sticks so I learned the hard (Read: expensive) way. The funny thing about flying that heli was it was durable except for the blades. It had the covered balsa blades. If you even hit the grass the wrong way it would pull the covering off of the blades and immediately throw it off balance. There were some sets of blades that I was able to repair but essentially every time I had a bad landing I was back at the hobby store getting more blades. I went through at least a couple hundred dollars worth of blades until I realized the carbon blades were more durable.

I still remember the day that I bought that heli. I was on the way home and pulled over because I couldn't wait. Stopped in a parking lot and tried to lift off. Of course it tipped over and hit the blades. I had to turn around and go back to the hobby store and get a new set!! That was embarassing!

After some nagging from my better half about all the dings on the furniture, I discovered that you can drape a blanket over the coffee table (or anything else really - like the TV) and the blanket basically protects it from the dings from the Nano CPX blades.

I can understand. I learned with a mini mall coax, then a micro FP (45 degree flybar), then nano. All in the master bedroom (king size bed is a great soft landing platform).

Consequently. no furniture dings But I like the idea of a blanket.

(Against all sanity, I did some piro-hover practice in the same space with my spin8000 130x. A mishap with that would damage things (walls, furniture, etc..). Fortunately no issues )
