Trying to figure out best placement of antennas. This is what i got so far, any comment or suggestions? Probably would cut holes in canopy the way its mounted...can i fold the sats over and heat shrink?

The satellites are both mounted 180 degrees out of phase (just ipside down to eachother) one should be 90 degrees out of phase.

For example, and from experience, i wouldn't mount on the boom (trust me here....), id mount on the frame with the wires going up and down, maybe about 75% of it mounted in so that the wires are hanging out on each side of the boom not within the frame.

I only have one sat the bottom is the Ar7700. But i think i get what your saying. My concerns and limitations at this point I cant move the Ar7700 it has to be where it is to be reasonably protected and have the SRXL line reach and i was told that you dont want your antennas touching the CF. This is why the antenna was routed along the bottom through the plastic. With the sat I dont see a way to keep the antennas away from the ground and blades mounting on the side as they are long unless I can fold them in on themselves and heat shrink to make them shorter. Still puzzled.

The one about the antennas not having to touch the CF is pure BS.

RF signals are affected by reflection and absorption (diffusion).

CF being conductive is not completely transparent to RF signals, nor is it completely opaque.

Unless the antenna wire is directly touching to the CF (without insulation), there should be no problems with absorption.

Having an antenna close to (or encased in) CF can cause issues with reflection (so reduced signal receptions at particular model angles). The closer to the CF, the greater angles at which reflection can reduce reception.

So best to have antenna away from CF to reduce the angles at which reflection reduces signal strength.

Thanks Archmage, I did not know this about reflection.

Still, in the case of the OP, it looks like the cure is worse than the disease, where to avoid reflection problems he loses the correct orientation and/or the CF shades the antenna.

I would not cut any holes for the antenna , Unless your canopy is made of carbon fiber and as long as you don't hide the antenna inside of carbon fiber your good.
From my experience it really doesn't matter how you place them.
I have always used 2 satellites one on either side or front and back, top and bottom.

Anyone know if looping the sat antennas back on each side and heat shrinking to control length is gonna cause problems .... because other then that it will be the mounted up and down on the side with antennas bent at the ends, double sided taped to form big C... so im not chopping the antennas off or landing on them with my skids

You may want to have a look at:
https://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=594760

As long as you can get the antennas to 90 degree offsets, looping is fine. Heat shrinking is also fine for antenna protection (most heat shrink is RF opaque - except black).

Do not cut antennas (length is important).

Do a proper range test from full 360 degrees before flying.

They need to be at 3" away from each other and at 90 degrees. Also make sure you keep the antennas away the CF.
