Default Post your T-REX 600 FDR Graphs here

I will start with a flight from today.

ALU 600
NEU 1512/1.5Y/F
FlightPower EVO 20 6s1p 4900
V-Blades 600 Mains
Radix 92mm Tails
14MZ/G3
Castle Creations HV-85 ESC in GOV mode at 55%
2350 on the head with 11T Helical.

This thing is a rocket now, had my boom slipping back into the tail boom clamp, so gotta repair and go fly again, this is the first flight of the day.

This flight was cut to 2.5 minutes due to the slipping tail belt.

Will... I know this is NOT always possible but a good idea when people can is to show a video of the flight AND the graph... Talk about a REAl relationship? Wadda ya think?

Pardon my ignorance Will - what's an FDR graph, how do I get one and what can I do with it ?

Here are some graphs from my fairly stock rex600. I'm planning to do some upgrading and I wanted to get a baseline so I could compare later setups to it.

It has the stock motor/ESC along with an 11 or 12T Helical pinion and FP4900 batteries. +/- 13 degrees of pitch, 100-98-100 throttle curve. Everything runs cool and I LOVE it. But it 's time for MORE power. Those vids of the 8 and 10 cell setups are killing me. First I gotta try the 11 and 12 T helical on 6S though.

Sorry no video to go with it. It would be too boring to watch anyway.

I tried the 11 and 12 Tooth pinions with both 600 mm Radix and V Blades.

With the 11T pinion I liked the V-blades best, there was plenty of torque and good crisp response with the V's. The radix blades (with the same pitch curve) felt 'softer' and not as crisp.

With the 12T pinion the Radix blades felt better, there just wasn't enough torque to drive the V-blades without bogging badly. It bogged with the Radix as well but to a much lesser degree and it was manageable.

For my taste, I like the 11T helical pinion with the V blades the best. It seemed like a good combination of high torque with minimal bogging and good snappy response from the V blades. I'm sure others have different preferences; and the newer XL motor will change things as well. The additional power of the XL motor would likely make the 12T helical pinion a better option for me down the road. More fun things to try.

FWIW, here are some graphs:

Got my FlightPower batteries, and WOW they are good.

Sorry I have no video, might manage to get some video´s next season.

When I have seen the data curves from other people in here with FP batteries, I could see they were good from the flat voltage curve from start to end, so to try them my self was as expected. GREAT POWER.

Below is two FDR graph´s with my T-REX600 number one and two and both curves in combination.

Even that it was cold in the weather, the performance was very good, and the blades got a new sound caused by the more stable Rotor RPM through out maneuvers caused by the flat voltage curve.

The Tango motor performs very well and runs surprising cold on 10S, and I am impressed by how good the voltage is hold by the FlightPower batteries right to the end, even at cold temperatures. Surely some amazing technology here.

How does the one with the Tango fly Paul. How does it feel in the air? I have a 45-08 sitting here and was thinking.....

Hi Will!

I only have some few flights with the Tango 10S setup, so I need to fly a little more to get a better feeling for the difference. But first impression was very good power, similar to the NEU setup, and power enough for all 3D maneuvers.

The motor sound a little turbine like, and 10S keeps the Amps down and the efficiency up.

If I go for spur gear, I can make a 13T/170T gearing giving even higher rotor RPM, might try that in combination with a reduced throttle curve.

I think 10S gives a good voltage for 50 heli´s, so think this should be some kind of a standard for this class.

12S might be a standard for 90 size heli´s soon, to give that extra Watt´s without just dialing up the Amp´s.

I will continue to fly with 8S and 10S for some time, just to gain some more experience of the difference between these setup´s.

So far my experience with different heli´s is that one can not just dial up the power unlimited, it has a price seen in failing parts on the heli´s caused by stress above design limits. So as always, it is about the find a power efficient light weight compromise, and my guess is that the 10S Tango setup is a good candidate to a powerful efficient setup that can be used at almost any ambient temperature.

Remark the difference on Amp´s between the two setup.

With app. the same peak watt (1895 Watt for the NEU and 1808 for the Tango), the 8S NEU setup had a peak Amp flow of 70 Amp, where the 10S Tango had a Peak Amp of only 53 Amp.

I like the 53 Amp the most ;-)

I find it important to keep down the overall weight to gain power/weight ratio without stressing the heli design too much. So the outstanding weight/power ratio of the FlightPower batteries is a very good Christmas present in my search for achieving that :-).

Could someone please explain to me what all these numbers and such mean? Thank You!

How do you guys like the eagle tree? I just ordered mine with motor temp wrap, and micro temp, and optical rpm. Anyone using this stuff? How many flights can you record before ahving to download the info? If i mount the optical sensor off of my main spur can i measure rotor speed? CAn the rpm sensor be adjusted at set up to compensate for different diameters? Anyone using the micro screen?
Thanx

i like the external LCD because you can get realtime data instead of having to wait until you download to computer, or having to spoolup while tethered to a computer.

i got the optical tach originally. but, i found it too much work to get a good reading (sensor needs to read a solid black and a solid white on the spinning surface to read the rotation). so, i just got the ESC tach. it seems to work great, but my P.C. is down right now. so, i havent had a chance to program it to read heli RPM rather than motor RPM.

i've never logged a bunch of flights at once. but, i did get 3 9 minute flights logged at once. you just need to make notes on a pad while you're flying, because it comes off the FDR as one long stream of data on a timeline. maybe that's just me...i have a bad memory :glasses2:

I finally got a eagletree recorder,

Here is my setup

Trex 600 with custom heli 2mm carbon frame
Zpower Z50a-800 motor with 14T pinion
CC 85HV running GOV mode 2100rpm
FP EVO 10s (2x5s) 3700mah packs
Futaba 611 gyro
Hitec 6975 servos for cyclic
600mm Vblades and 95mm vblades for tail
Align torque tube

I've done 3 flights, here are all 3 graphs. On my 2nd and 3rd flight both times motor pulled over 3000 watts  .

OK my friend John let me borrow his eagletree for a flight this weekend

. Interesting stuff. This turned out to be basically a comparison between his bone stock 6S 600 and my 10S setup, because he flew his first and didn't clear it. So, the averages are screwed up but the Max power value is good, and of course is from my heli This is with some new Radix 600 blades, and it looks like almost 2700W :glasses2: The max current might be from his 6S, it's hard to tell.

Check out my setup in the "power systems that work" thread if you're interested, and then PM me if you need more info...

These are great graphs! Started off detailed about each setup but we started loosing some of the info such as gearing (main gear and pinion) Listed below is what's helpful. Please step in and add to this...

Motor / KV
Pinion / tooth / helical / straight
Battery / Manufacturer / C ratings / mah
ESC / amps / Settings
Main Blades / size / brand
Max Blade Pitch
Cyclic Pitch

All usefull information when viewing the data being posted

Thankyou
