Xicoy Telemetry with Futaba 18sz
I tried to set up the telemetry system with Xicoy telemetry3 adaptor and Futaba 18SZ. They said 11 channels of info are sent but many of them look useless. I guess because Futaba 18sz can select only Jetcat V10 and it is not compatible with Xicoy Fadec sensors. I got these four to see as reliable numbers at least.

Battery
Mine was originally set 2S 3200mAh Li-Po for ECU and 2S 3200mAh Li-Fe for Rx. This subject has been discussed on many forums I went through but I use one 2S 4000mAh for both power sources. Since this is FBL configuration with high speed servo, will set a voltage regulator to feed the Microbeast controller.

Would not a 2S2P 2000 mah not do the trick of providing redundancy while covering both circuits. I get that the circuits would not be isolated so an ECU issue could take out the receiver, but might that be the best tradeoff? This may just be ignorant thinking as I haven't read all those discussions.

Data terminal readings
Here is the data terminal setting parameters for my Intrepid Wren MW54H Kerostart. I don't have any clue for it. Is there any reading material about these ?

Wren's instruction manual
So, we should have two batteries ?
Wren comments, "Many fliers try to use regulators on their helicopter in order to try to use a single battery for ECU and receiver. Experience shows this does not work. The fuel pump needs high current pulses to operate correctly and a regulator cannot handle this. Keep the batteries separate." |

The risk of a cell failing is mitigated by going parallel cells. After reading Wren's reference to that cross impact being more than just in a failure scenario it appears to be mandatory. You could just give it that bit extra reliability by halving the capacity but doubling the cells, ie go parallel. However, maybe not really necessary for the ECU if you can auto and LiFe is probably far more reliable than lipo's. Also, finding 3S2P 1600mah may be a bit difficult

Thanks Raptorapture,
I go with 2S 3200mAh Li-Po and 2S Li-Fe 3200mAh with voltage regulator combination for my Intrepid. |

PS: Probably it is not simple as that. I found the note as below. SMART-FLY POWERSYSTEM SPORT PLUS (REG, BS, FS SW, SMALL JETS) "The JR and Spektrum PowerSafe receivers are not recommended for use with any of our systems. These were never designed to be used in any way other than by themselves. These include the JR922, JR1222 and AR9100." Last edited by Old NEET; 04-07-2017 at 12:31 PM.. |

I do not not have any fuel pump current data. To be honest, I've never even thought about it.

Sorry to bring up a something from earlier, but with the extinguishers...
Be careful with CO2 it will create static and could fry your electronics. I have been hit with this and I could feel it come in my left hand and out my right big toe.. It did not feel good. I know halotron is exspensive, but if you can afford it its worth it. Ansul Clean Guard (FE36 i believe) is even more efective. Ive got a few halon 1211 and 1301 extinguishers around the house, they are getting hard to come by. (Been in the fire protection business for a little over12 years)

Problem on the 2nd stage unit
The Halotron sounds best choice if money doesn't matter.
Anyway, I was making a maiden flight just hovering very low altitude and all the sudden terrible noise came out. Definitely something is wrong. I inspected and touch everywhere I could not found nothing from outside. Went back to home and disassembled lower chassis and try to rotate the output shaft, oh no, sounded like making shaved ice. Now, the 2nd stage unit got to be over hauled. Wow, the output side ball bearing was destroyed. The one of ten balls was shaved off completely. I'm lucky to find the turbine side expensive ceramic bearing has no damage. I know it is nice to replace that bearing and balance sending unit to Wren but, well,,, save it as next project. I just ordered the ball bearing and the oil seal. Last edited by Old NEET; 04-10-2017 at 06:29 AM.. |

Yes, I was lucky and am lucky to know many things now.
Since I don't have detailed parts specification or cross section drawings, these are my observations comparing with MW44H instruction manual. The gear box of 44 and 54 are completely different designs as 1. Fuel mist lubrication for both reduction gears and bearings for 44 but 54 is oil bathing for reduction gear and fuel mist for bearings. 2. Spiral bevel gear Vs standard bevel gear. 3. The 44 input shaft is carried by two high precision ceramic bearings while 54 has only one ceramic bearing at turbine side and standard ball bearing at output side. Interesting found was the direction of the ceramic bearing though. The tapered mark showing the turbine side narrower. The shaft housing fit from wider side and seems a little lose fit. I could see the outer bearing has burnt mark half way from the turbine too. But there is a loading spring to press the housing to the bearing. Now I understand this bearing is halfway float mounted to absorb the reduction gear vibration. Last edited by Old NEET; 04-12-2017 at 07:53 AM.. |

Exterior
Pink-Orange-Yellow gradation bullet train like coloring with desert storm digital camouflage painted tanks. Love it or hate it, edge design.
The original owner spend $80 for the tanks though. With the canopy, got to have some weight for CG balance of course. Last edited by Old NEET; 04-14-2017 at 04:04 PM.. |

Xicoy Telemetry with Futaba 18sz
My setting with Xicoy telemetry on Futaba 18sz is just showing the temperature and fuel consumption (pump working load) correctly. Well, I don't need too many infos anyway and probably will install transparent fuel tanks too. The temperature read is exactly matching to the wired system analyzer and I think this data is the most important to know
