OS GT15HZ600

OS just released a 600 class version of their nitro inspired gasoline helicopter engine. It's selling for 30,400 yen or around $300 right now. I wonder what would be involved in fitting this into a P6?

Don't know if you've seen this or not, but some guys were making progress. Not sure where it stands though. I'm curious to find out as well.

Well, since John offers a .91 upgrade for the P6 and the GT15HZ is "the same size as most .91's", won't that GT15HZ work? Is there a need for the 600 class one that is reference in this post?

John, how about it, will the GT15HZ work in your P6? Have you done any work/analysis to evaluate and confirm that?

Hi Guys, This is a pretty old thread that I stumbled upon while I was looking for information on whether or not anyone has used a O.S. Max GT15HZ in the Pantera. Has anyone successfully done this yet? Or are there issues that are a show stopper? heat? size? vibration? etc?. Thanks in advance for any replies.

My guess is the short anwer is: Stick with the O.S. 50SX-H 2cycle.

Also, I saw in RC Heli Pilot magazine that Audacity is holding a holiday sale. Bundling the kit with the eletronics and pipe for $500. Haven't managed to find it on the website yet. Anyone planning to take advantage of this sale?

I would avoid that motor like the plague it is fundamentally flawed and from what I have read it will blow up if you so much as give it a dirty look. If you want a gasoline engine in a nitro heli form factor take a look at the Go Engine GH56, apparently it does work. I'm not sure if you'd need the Raptor fan or the Trex 600 fan (you need a modified fan to fit the engine and Go Engine sells fans for the Trex 600 and Raptor 30/50) or if either would fit the Pantera cooling shroud though the Pantera P6 has a lot more leeway with motor height than most other nitros.. Other than the fan no modifications are needed to fit it into a .50 nitro heli airframe, it is basicly just their .56 nitro heli engine modified to run on gasoline (it needs a lot more oil in the mix than a Zenoah though something like 10/1 similar to a nitro engine).

I eventually gave up on the idea of using a nitro form factor engine, when I get around to building my gasser I'm just going to use a conversion kit and a Zenoah engine. There is a reason why everyone uses an RC270 in gasser helis, they just work.

The Pantera cooling system is really difficult to modify and doesn't move enough air for the GT15. I flew a Pantera with an NGH GT9 for a short period of time, it doesn't really move enough air to deal with the higher heat from gasoline

Although the sale is past (but still visible online) I found it on promodeler.com . I didn't see it on the audacity site.

What would it take for me to have jumped on the sale? Make a fbl friendly option. Nix the tail gyro and maybe the muffler , and upgrade the cyclic servos to the coreless model. Let me add my FBL unit of choice. Price would be almost the same (potentially cheaper for FBL friendly setup)
