motor noise questions
hey guys this os55 is my first nitro motor. I put a new swash on my nx4 today and took it out back to test it out. The last time I flew this it made what sounded like a loose muffler so I tightened the muffler which sounded better at first and when I flew it the noise was back. Today I started it up and the noise was still there so I landed after a few seconds to make sure the motor was hot and tried to tighten the muffler down but it was tight. The noise is intermittent but makes the noise more times than not. I cant find where the noise is coming from. I'm wondering if this is really a common noise when its time to rebuild. So what do you experienced nitro owners think. I'm leaning towards a rebuild or a hub but before I tear into this I'm wondering what you guys are thinking it is. Like I said it sounds like a loose muffler vibrating on a running motor.

If it is a high pitched tinging type sound.. Could be your rear bearing.. An audio clip of the noise at idle would identify it..

If I was to guess, it sounds like your rear bearing is going out. My .55's don't seem to have issues with the stock rear bearing but I've read that some have had the stocker wear out rather quickly. Replacing them with stainless bearings seems to be the cure or doing the MagnaGlide is also an option.

If you take the motor out change both front and rear bearings,
But if you have a loose pipe noise that is intermittent, it may be the pipe starting to fail, look for hair line cracks, may show up as dark grey greasy streaks. At idle, it sound like a loose pipe ? A rattle. That's prob the bearing fAiling, rebuild with fresh bearings, don't fly it,

Good to know, I haven't begun to mess with this. Just picked up front and rear bearings and the retaining clips from a friend. I'm going to tear it down soon. Thanks for input guys. Haven't flown it since I heard the noise. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
