Yup, that is a solid piece of cold rolled steel at the bottom of the leg. Adds weight that will keep it from tipping over.
Good Idea for the top of the leg, I could machine out a plug to cap the end with. Hmmm another project!
I really appreciate all input I can get, I want to make the best product I can.
THANKS!!!!

A plug would make the tripod look more complete and would keep out foreign debris, especially water. I think it would be a great enhancement.

NOTE: I have started putting a larger tray on the stand, the new tray is a full 2" larger all around.

As Prontow has alluded to, the videos originally posted are no longer an accurate representation of the stand, so there's not much point in viewing them. It would be nice to have the YouTube video put there though.

I just wanted to follow up. I've been using this stand to hold my Knight 3D during my build and I can't imaging living without it now. I don't have to worry about clearing a spot on a table and I can have all my tools and parts within easy reach on the tray. Good move increasing the size of the tray!

I think I've had the heli off the fixture once to tighten down the engine backplate bolts (I had to tip it up on one skid because the crosspiece on the fixture got in the way) and a couple of times to dump screws and other small parts out of the heli's frame after I've dropped them.

I am *very* happy with this stand!

That's a well-known fact and it doesn't matter because that video represents early work on the stand and it changed a lot before it started shipping. I do wish they'd update the first post with the YouTube links for the latest version. In the meantime, the YouTube videos are embedded in the posts of this thread.

A friend of mine makes a great stand that works on helis up to 90 size. I have one and it works great....

Go to www.helicopterjohn.com
Look in his gallery to see video. Then request one to be built

Let me know if this helps

I bought this Tilt-A-Whirl stand at IRCHA.

I used it first to rebuild a crashed 450, frame up, and it was fast and efficient.

I just got my trex 600ESP and will be using it during the build.

It's a great stand, now I can watch TV with the family and get my Heli work done.

Very happy!

I live about 10 miles from Prontow, and have seen his stands up close and they are great. I

n fact I have had my heli's over there a couple of times and we had them in the stands working on them.

These stands look great and are rock solid.

A buddy and I just ordered two of Prontow's Tilt-A-Whirl stands.... Ordered Wednesday morning.... UPS dropped them off Friday morning.... Don't see how you can improve on that. Professional packaging... No way this gets damaged in route to your house unless the UPS guy decided to drive the truck over it...

Took about five minutes to put the stand together.... It involved a total of five screws. All major parts are powder coated.... Fit and finish is
excellent.... All hardware is first rate... Even the welds look great....

We immediately fastened a Trex 250 to one stand and it fit just fine.... We then tried a Trex 600e .... Holds fast in all positions no chance of tipping over.... We then fastened a Trex 450 to the stand that had no gear on it (repair job don't ask)..... We attached it using the boom only!

I recommend this product without reservation.... Now I need a new project to assemble....

I emailed George letting him know you were looking for one of his stands. Also called but got his VM told him to check his email.
