Pyro 850 much lower kv. The max rpm Is a guideline only and more for bearing longevity than anything else also its a small motor better suited for 12s as to get kv low enough for 14 s it needs more windings, since space is limited the only solution would be higher pole count to lower kv and then your yge won't work anymore as its switching frequency limited to 132000 on 2 pole
well ive not heard anything positive about running 14s :-( and you seem to know lot more than me lol, so ill stick with 12s 5000 thanks

btw running Kosmik 200

I got the opportunity to try out the Scorpion HKIII-4530 450kv RigidHeli.com edition with 17T pinion and 14S 4200mAh 60C Desire Power on my XXtreme 700.

I did a test flight on 2000RPM and the result:

The cool thing is that this motor is a drop in replacement for the Mikado 4525. Just plug in some 14S lipos and have fun!

Plenty of power, even when you just do stupid full pitch punch-outs (13 degrees)

Looks very solid !
What did you put back into the packs after that flight ?

Too bad that you can't simply add that motor to cart, and have it on the way. I'd buy one now if you could...
I hope one of the manufacturers is paying attention, there is a need for a 10 pole, 45 series, 450kv motor with an 8mm shaft. Since the pyro 800-48 won't work with the yge 160hv.

I put back 2750mAh after this flight. Peak at 6.1kW.

A little birdy told me that this custom motor will be up for order soonish.

Just bought that combination and got it in the mail today. What's wrong with the 800-48 and YGE 160?

The setup from the video indeed looks impressive, practically unboggable whilst staying cool.

The yge went through a firmware update somewhere in the last while, it's switching rate is now capped at 132,000 as opposed to their advertised 250,000 cycles on 2 pole.
This means 14 pole motors can only be run to a certain rpm, too low for the 480kv and 14s.
10 pole motors like the scorpions and their rewinds are good to go though.

Nice flying !

I liked the cool swirling funnels at 3:50

I also really liked the canopy , those colors are awesome.

We have more than our share of crappy overcast grey skies.

So many times at the field i can't see the heli but that four orange and yellow are going to change that

I'm getting excited to go flying , but going to have to wait

Off to shovel some snow

Do you have a link to these new specs?

Heli Direct still shows the specs to be 240,000. I haven't tried it yet since now I'm skeptical. I'd hate to be stuck with a YGE that won't work with thie Kontronik 800-480.

MrMel contacted yge to confirm.
Feel free to do the same.
Stolla tried it with his rewound pyro 800, still 14 poles of course, and the esc wouldn't drive the motor past the software limited switching rate.

Ok I have rewind 850 not that it makes a difference. U can run it on 12s with 19t pinion keeping rpm under 18500 it works well don't know how the limit affects headroom as I had to tweak vbar gov settings to get it to work well maybe if we can get larger pinion to keep motor rpm lower will work but really not an optimised solution, better keep 4525 or get kosmik
I will try kosmik soon I get one then post comparative result on 12s before going 14. Please read my post in vstabi .de for detailed explanation why yge or perhaps rather mik wanted the limit

Stolla, thanks for the info. Looking forward to your findings with Kosmik...

So, just a little update with this thread.
I tried the pyro 800-48 with 713 se edges at 2100 rpm. It was lethargic on collective response, disk load is just a bit too heavy. 210 amp peaks.
Also tried the pyro on 753mm edges (250g), that shut the kosmik down due to how quickly the pyro would spike amps. Pyro 800 is a bit too small for 753mm blades and agressive flying. 240 amp peak and then shutdown.

Swapped out the pyro 800-48 for a scorpion 4530-450 "ultimate".
On 713mm se's it was a noticeable improvement due to the added power. 220 amp peaks.
Huge difference on 753mm blades, way more power, and lower peak amp draws compared to pyro. 230 amp peaks.
The 753mm blades are good for lift, but are too heavy, they give the heli a weird "gyro" effect, it just hangs in the air. Also uses alot of power when bouncing back from a governor fluctuation. Hover amp draw is high too.
Found some nhp agressor's at 742mm and 200 grams through minicopter.
They're pretty decent, lower hover amp draw, and I like the initial response of the collective. 215 amp peaks.

Shawn has some ms composit 720mm and 730mm blades on the way to try next. He's running the same 14s setup with a scorpion 4530-450.
Hopefully we can nail down a good size and edge will build some, can't beat the nice cyclic behaviour of the edge se blades. Those in a 730 would be very nice.

So in summary, still not quite there with the blades yet, 730mm is going to be the one I think.
And I highly recommend the scorpion 4530-450, it's got balls !

Hey guys!

I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on an HKIII 4530-450 for my Diabolo on 14s. Just a quick question. At this point is there any advantage over the Rigid Heli version over the stock Scorpion version? The Rigid Heli version is about $100 more and takes 2 to 3 weeks. The standard Scorp version is in stock at multiple vendors.

Thanks!!!
