Thanks for feedback,

I have some 500ml(16oz) Nalgene bottle coming, I'll show the layout again then.

Even without measuring the actual bottles yet, the tank can be close to main shaft but not directly underneath. But closer than at the front for sure.

The only way around this is to turn the motor 180 degs, this puts the hot air straight into the canopy. I have learnt from experience first hand from other conversions that this is not great. Also puts the exhaust hideously close to the front of the canopy, such is the problems with dual stage gear trains, they push everything forward.

Anyway, should have new bottles modeled in the next day or so.

More to come...regards Joey.

Thanks Carey,

Just added, standard Agile electronics plates and standard standoffs for the fuel tank holder plates.

Just need to get Canopy scan back and model some peripheral parts (landing gear and mounts etc) to finalize.

Comments ?

Thanks Joey.

Ok from my limited knowledge, but for most helicopters I have seen the fuel tanks tend to be on the other side of the engine from the plug (spark or Glow).

It may be better to flip the engine around with the plug going forward, this would allow the fuel tank to be moved closer to the main shaft and have a less CG shift as fuel is used

It will be hard to get at the plug with the tank right behind it.

Can't say I am crazy about the cylinder facing forward, too much heat is held inside the canopy

guys, I may be wrong ( I usually am) but I think joey designed the tank to be easily removable with one of the two tank retainer plates being removed (2) bolts for that purpose. to get to the plug. just install your fittings in the cap, or just above the cap and leave some slack in the lines to pull the tank out, and I think you should be good to go....

not saying it is as easy as some of the other designs, but it does retain the rear facing engine that works so well, and the tank in the back. I can CG being dead nuts on with this design.

I really like joey's designs.....too bad I don't own one yet

Joey
Looks like you're making great progress with the design. It looks awesome.
Just got back from IRCHA where I got to put my hands on a KDS helicopter again. I was just as impressed with its quality, maybe even more so, than I was last year. A few other gasser guys were just as impressed and are now waiting for a kit as well.
One question : Will the final design have a fuel tank with a screw on cap or is this just a first draft made with a tank that you had available? My concern is with the cap loosening from vibration and developing a leak, especially if the fittings are on the cap and the fuel lines are making it a stress point.
Thanks for the great work!!

those nalgene tanks have been used for years

I actually prefer them to anything else

the caps tighten on and won't loosen.

If the tanks have proven themselves to not leak over time then they would be a good idea. It would make life a lot easier when building or if you have to replace the clunk or tubing inside the tank. Tightening the fittings with access to both sides would be easier as well.
Thanks Carey

Default Situation

Hey Carey:

What's the situation with this conversion and making parts for it? I realize you're working on Goblin parts now, will this one be made in unison or only after you finish stocking up on goblins?

Thanks for all you do,

-=>Raja.

there's one more aspect to the design that isn't done yet

once it is then things can start moving on this

these will also be offered as a conversion or a complete pre-converted kit

had a problem getting one of the components needed to finish the design. once thats done it can be prototyped and tested. So production is a ways off yet

I now have the Goblin 700 competition full kits in stock, will do the same with the agile when its ready
