Yes they are....they provide a few purposes..

115 AC...
Can brew fresh coffee at the field
Run/recharge my laptop, cameras, lights at night
I have a 24V secondary battery system wired in my truck... but when there is only 12V.
Provides a way to run the chargers @24V when you only have 12V available..granted not at full output. But if your out buzzing 450's more than sufficient.

I have some Nylon tool bags I move mine around in, I have a couple of extra Harbor freight style cases, been thinking about putting the batteries in one of them!

When you get a chance, look at the inside of the small feet on the back of the charger. There is a hollow area in the molded foot, right above (as the charger sits upright) the rubber. It's kind of in an arc shape.

The space is the perfect size to hold an M3 locknut. I drilled a hole right through the rubber feet on both sides and secured the chargers with M3 screws and locknuts (screw length will depend on plexi thickness).

Under the front there is a bunch of vent holes in the steel. I ran a zip-tie through the vent holes, and drilled 2 holes in the plexi for it. The front just gets zip tied down which holds the front down, while the screws in the back hold position and the back down. Very solid!

Someone asked about carrying batteries. I thought I'd throw this in too. This is my transmitter/tool box. Everything in need is in this box... Charge adaptors, oil, locktite, tools, etc... The plates are for protecting batteries from pinions, and the brush it to keep the TX clean. The boxes are spinner bait boxes from walmart. They fit perfect in the generic home depot Transmitter case.

When I go to the field I take:
Heli
Charge box
TX box
Battery bag

Pretty streamlined... I'm digging it!

heres the charge station im working on. My dad is the manager at our local BestBuy and got 6 of the Dj Hero transport cases (why im not sure). I was able to get one of them, and decided to use it to setup a charge station.

the case closes up nice and clean. when it is opened, the top portion houses the chargers, they are not mounted yet as I am still working on the power supply wiring. I plan to run outlets for 12 and 24v up to the top for access. Underneath, I have 2 HP 12v 47A ps's wired in series. They are the "feathermerchant" ones, but i got them naked off ebay for 14 each. doing the jumpers was easy, as was slowing the fans a little. I made a custom wire harness, leaving the ground disconnected on the white one. then I can plug in a single cord on the outside of the case. there is also room under there for some extra wires, and batteries and what not.

It is a WIP.

i ordered aome stuff today to start making a little charging station nothing too powerful, just a 200watt charger and 220watt psu. i was wondering if its even going to charge a 2200mah 6s fast enough to be a good mobile unit or should i save my time and effort and just keep it as a home unit. plus i really have no idea on a good solid case or blueprints to us.

It will do 3C almost 4C if your packs will take it
20 min charge per pack.

Thanks for the tips Jason. Your installation is very clean.

I bought the Futaba double transmitter case. It's perfect for my radio and up to eight 6s5000 packs (might be a tight squeeze for high C rating LiPos). So that and a heli is all I need for a short day of flying. If I'm going to an event or plan to charge I can grab the charging station too, so I've got it down to two cases maximum.

Also, I can carry four 6s5000 packs plus a Hyperion Duo, all in the transmitter case. Very handy if I'm going to charge from the car instead of A/C. So that's one advantage to mounting the chargers with velcro in the charging station.

@BackBurner...

If you have to charge everything.. how long would it take you? Conversely if everthing was charged, how long could you fly?

That's a nice layout. I'm envious.. you are a perfectionist perhaps?

and how do you get those big batteries in that little heli????

Dual TP820CD with dual HP 406421-001 (900watts each on 110/120 Volts) on floating DC ground. This is all housed in a Pelican 1500 case with a NEMA5-15 inlet for a power connector (use any extension cord you want).

I just finished my charger case. IEC port on back of it. Vent holes in sides and back of it for the power supply.
