Default BEC for my 600 build

Hello guys,

I am currently building a hk600gt for a scale build and I am kind of confused about a BEC.

I will be running my setup with 6s battery with a align 510 kv motor with a castle creation hv 120. My servos are ds615 and ds655 for tail.

So can anyone help understand if I need or not a bec and if you guys could help choose one? I am looking to pay not too much for it.

Thanks
Billy

I am running a 15amp on my 600 Trex.

You should be able to find one pretty cheap, but get a name brand one.

This is the exact one I am running on my 600. It's hard to beat the price. I have never had any issues with mine.

Personally, I like having a dedicated BEC with it's own battery. To me it's like having a backup incase there's a failure or something with the ESC. You definetly need a BEC if you ESC doesn't have one. They state it delivers the power consistently and even. Some state it adds more weight to the Heli, but I don't think that matters on a scale.

I just bought an Opti Power. I will be experimenting with it soon.

If your Castle 120 is a Talon, you don't need a BEC. The Talon series have a decent BEC built in unlike the Edge, ICE etc.

Are you sure you will be able to achieve a high enough head speed, I even find my 1100KV with 1:10 gear ratio only governs to a max of 2150 RPM.

With 6S, you do not need an "HV" ESC.

But, if you already have the CC HV ESC, if it is the Talon HV 120, then it has a built-in BEC that should be OK for you.

If it is the CC Edge HV 120, then you need an external BEC.

CC makes a couple of good little BECs.
The CC BEC Pro 20 works well with a 6S input.

Just my 0.2c. If you're building a scale helicopter then you would want to use a separate battery for electronics.. Just to have a peace of mind....
