Default Custom MCPX BL Helis / Landing Skids for Hyperion 550 mAh Batteries

Hi

I bought 2 - MCPX Helis with brushless mods. I do not know much about the Helis motors, ESCs. I can post some pictures. maybe someone can help with what they are.

They both have TDR canopies. I found some new ones and they are on the way.

They also have some custom Frank Lachmund landing skids. He was using Hyperion 550 mAh 1S batteries. I wanted to find some landing skids that I would be able to slide the Hyperion 550 mAh batteries in.

I had a Micro Heli carbon landing gear. I put it together but the 550 mAh batteries are too big.

Does anyone know of a landing gear that will fit the 550 mAh packs ?

Stock skids will work with Hyperion 550's. You just have to remove the 4 nubs in the battery tray and they'll slide right in.

Post up some pics and let's see what you got.

Stock skids will work in a Rakon frame, no problem. Where's the pics?

This is the white one. I crashed it so I change the blades and shortened the carbon boom 1/4" or so. I may have to change the boom. I think I would run the tail motor wires on the outside like the other one. I just CA the skids for now.

Some of the servos on the yellow one were twitching so I took all of them apart and cleaned them. Now they are good.

Suggested settings he sent me.

MCPX (WHITE):

Aileron and Elevator Expo: I had 10% however to numb it down initially I suggest you start with 25%
Rudder: ZERO Expo, however dual rate is 120 and you will want this for the tail to be fast enough
Throttle Curves: Normal 0,0,82,82,82 Idle 1: 100,75,45,75,100 Idle 2: Same as Idle 1
Travel adjustments: Pitch 78/78 All rest adjustments all 100/100
Normal Reverse: ALL channels on my DX7 were in Normal state
Subtrims: Zero on all
Timer: 3:00 minutes

MCPX (YELLOW):

Throttle Curves: Normal: 0,0,100,100,100 Idle 1:100,77,60,77,100 Idle 2: Same as Idle 1
Travel Adjustments: Pitch 80/80, rest all 100/100
All the remaining settings are exactly same as above ones for the white one. As you can see the only trick part or different part is the startup is all.

Now that you have all the above settings installed into your transmitter, lets observe the startup process here below…..

Transmitter is (ON) and throttle hold is off, then following steps:
1.) Flight mode normal, left collective stick all way down
2.) Plug in the charged 1S 555mah lipo pack, ensure the mini deans plug is facing to back tail rotor and that the lipo is nearly pushed all the way forward for best Center of gravity
3.) Once hear the beeps move left stick to middle collective, you’ll hear a tone then put stick back down to bottom, now your heli is ready, the esc is ARMED
4.) Put throttle hold on at this time, move left stick to middle (zero pitch)
5.) Choose either stunt 1 or stunt 2 to fly in, take off throttle hold and allow to spool up then lift off and fly. Do not ever fly in normal mode! **

I increased my expo in my TX. I lowered the pitch. I was trying to make them a little more docile for indoor winter flying. And I am just testing them and trying to get used to them.

Now I was testing lowering aileron and elevator travels as well. We don't have too much room indoors for winter. It is in a old hanger. Celling height is low.

They are both running XP12A's for the main ESC and XP3A for the tail. The white one has a HP06V for the main motor and the yellow has a TA915 which is the most insane motor you can put in a mCPX. Looks like the are both running HP03T 8600KV tail motors with RRC props. Sounds like your ESC are in GOV Arm mode by the way your describing the arming process and throttle curves.

Thank you !! Not sure if I will need them but are the motors and ESCs still available ?

Maybe a bit crazy for me for indoors. I have two 180 cfx as well and a 230s comming. I don't really fly them much in the summer. Too many other Helis.

Neither of those helis are inside helis unless you have a ton of real estate and headroom. The ESC's and the HP06V2 motor are still available at Oversky. That tail motor is old school and the standard is a 9000Kv motor these days.I haven't seen a TA915 in a while. Wow Hobbies use to carry them and I'm not sure if they still do.

You may wish to tame down those throttle curve numbers.
This should make the heli less aggressive.

I tried lowering the throttle curve a bit but then it wouldn't arm. So I put it back up. I was told to try lowering the normal throttle curve and it would lower the headspeed for idle up.

Not sure if this works yet.

Wow hobbies still sells the TA915 motor. They say it is the most powerful motor available for a micro.

How do you program the XP 12A ESC ?

I found you set it up with the TX but you can only set: Brake, Timing, Start Mode, Cutoff mode, Throttle curve, Cell number, Cutoff threshold, Motor rotation.

Trying to understand this ESC. What about governor mode ?

That manual you linked really has nothing to do with your ESC's now that they are flashed. That only applies when they are in their original firmware. Here is a pretty good write-up on the BLHeli code,
https://www.helifreak.com/showpost.p...38&postcount=1

Your HP06 looks like it already has a plug on the ESC to connect a toolstick to for adjusting the BLHeli code parameters flashed on that ESC. You would need a tool stick like this, http://astroid-designs.myshopify.com...flashing-stick and the BLHeli software downloaded to your computer. You can do adjustments with a TX bit it takes forever and can get confusing with all the beeps.

Lowering the normal throttle curve will lower the running headspeed. When you arm it in normal that sets the headspeed for all throttle curves regardless what the idle up curves are. The idle up curves are set to trick the 3-n-1 into thinking its running the motors when really it helps with tail hold. I would leave the HP06 arming at 82%. I ran all of mine at 86% and that seemed to be the sweet spot for that motor. Lower the TA915 from 100 to around 90 to 94. If run any motor at 100%, whether it can run there or not, you don't have any headroom on the governor to adjust.
