Not yet . . . but
I have decent 3d printing experience but they've mostly been just one piece prints. I think I'm working my way up because soon I'll be printing this:

Just to prove the point this person built a 1/10 scale buggy using 3d printing.
http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:42198 looks pretty tough from the video. I've printed a fair number of smaller widgets for my helicopters. Antenna guides, pushrod guides, receiver mounts, fuel tank mounts.

I have printed a cooling shroud for the rotorstar gh56 motor running petrol in my TZ 50v2.
Was a big improvement over the original shroud but it still needs a couple of design changes but the cooling improved a lot. Also printed a set of cdi brackets and a mount for the opto kill switch. Used a malyan m150 i3 printer with abs filament. |

Edit: Nvm! Interesting abs is taking the heat. How many gallons through the shroud?

the subject will become more common
with 3d scanners becoming cheaper and better copying plastic parts will become easier and so more common.
This will allow to keep flying helicopters that lost there manufacturer support (cough thunder tigre). I hope that in 2 to 3 years i will be able to print my raptor 30/50/60/90 frame parts |

If you had this printer you would be all set to print and thing you need. Just different resin s I love that compressor impeller can withstand temp into 900 deg range n still function much better then it's metal counter parts. And at a third or forth the material cost plus machining time n labor plus saving of a stock room of inventory. Is Huge. Production ready parts in rapid time. It's a win win for any one with this printer can't wait to use one

Material
Aren't the 3D printing materials somewhat limited? Would the resultant part meet the physical requirements of most parts?

i HAVE USED 3d PARTS TO NSOLVE THE BELT PROBLEM WITH THE fw 450l. 3 DIFFERENT DESIGNS AND ALL WORK WELL. So impressed I bought a 3d Printer. Personal mid grade only about $250 dollars.

The key is to be able to draw in 3D. The printer is "nothing" and there are print shops.
I use Tevo Tornado for PLA/ABS printed parts for scale models. An Anycubic Photon Resine printer for scale parts aswell. Parts wich have to take a serious load, like plastic parts of any heli have to, i order from Shapeways, PA-12 Nylon MJF. They perform as fine. I made the retractable landing gears for A109A 600size from that, and the retractable landing gears for H160, 250 size aswell. It's reliable and strong. Beeing able to draw in 3D will provide any carbon frame part from any CNC shop aswell. I use discontinued helis like Blade 550X/600X because i don't crash - and i am able to make barely any replacement part i need. Since i can draw in 3D, i could design a dampened 4blade rotor head aswell, print it for seeing if all parts would fit and work fine, and then mill the parts from metal. When you crash your heli day by day, forget about all of this. Get a popular heli, and buy replacement parts. Drawing, improoving and printing or milling parts will take some time. It's a Hobby. I love it. Mentioned before in this thread, printing molds for thermoforming scale body parts: of course i do. Works fine.

I seem to be poor skilled, i can't get along with Fusion 360. But i'm fine with Solid Edge. I would want a scanner myself, but....how can i scan a new helicopter model? I need to be able to 3D-draw it. But i could scan all the fine detailed plastic models. That would be nice!
