Default Full size tail servo

It's not needed for performance, on that we all agree. However on stretched birds, they become tail heavy. To some it may not matter but i piro fast and a lot, and sometimes it will start to wobble. I wanted to add some weight to the front. And I don't like dead weight. I ran a futaba bls257 before, which performed flawlessly even with a stretch and a OS50. I could get it to the brink of blowing out in really fast funnels.

Anyway, I'm getting it overhauled and I was rebuilding the motor, and thought, why not. While it's all apart I added an aluminum case throttle mini servo and a full size tail.

I just marked the frame for what I wanted. I didn't cut anything towards the top of the servo, i cut towards the bottom. That way the spline lines up to where the mini would be as well. The cutting was more like grinding, I used a dremmel 9901 bit

https://www.amazon.com/Dremel-9901-T...ds=dremel+9901

Here are the pics. I drilled new holes for the screws. I reused the plastic triangle on the top to secure the servo. The top has only one screw. On the bottom I used two locking nuts because they are easily accessible from teh back. 3 screws and it doesn't move. No need for a fourth although it would be easy to do.

I haven't tried it with the canopy on, but I know I will put the ball between the servo and horn (on the inside). This will give it the same distance from the frame as it would with the mini on the outside. I'll post those pics when done.

I was able to get about 10 flights in yesterday. Tail held really well. Have a few tweaks here and there but Overall I'm happy with it. With the X5 boom any additional weight up front is welcomed.

I just rebuilt mine including the motor. I flew in normal mode for 1 flight yesterday. Nothing to report yet. Mine is a little different from the one above. The tail servo is on the other side. On the NX4 you have the option. I like his install better. But any weight you can add to the front will help. Even with a full size metal case servo and a mini metal case servo, I'm still tail heavy with a 2250 2s.

Ok, now I have about 30 flights with this mod. I really think it's well worth it. It takes little time and gives better performance if you piro a lot due to even weight distribution. Plus a bigger servo made mine feel crisper in the air.
