Default Tail upgrade

Hello,
I want to upgrade the tail assembly of the 270cfx.
I read somewhere that I can use a 450 tail assembly. Or was it the 360cfx that can use the 450 tail?
Please comment.

The 270 & 360 both use the 450 tail assembly same size boom different length

what´s the Magic of the metal housing ?
Installed it, but - to be honest - I see no really change to the polymer one.

My guess, better made as far as tolerances, less vibes, more durable. Looks?

Did you buy the lynx or blade? Most of the guys have problems with the blade tail it causes vibe but the Lynx is smooth as butter. I have the Lynx tail with metal tail grips on mine.

bought the Lynx. Kept the plastic grips.
Found no significant improvement. It works o.k., but so did the stock tail too.
Small vibrations.

For me its not clear, what of the tuning stuff really helps.

The "magic" of the Lynx case is that it made my tail robust against vibes.

With the stock case, the smallest ridiculous mismatch of tail blade balancing produced high levels of vibes and resonances, making the fin end oscillating about +/- 5mm and significantly disturbing the FBL's sensors (inconsistent bailout out).

That is now all gone and made flying much easier.

If your 270 tail has been problem free, there is no reason to switch. Be happy and fly!

Well, the tail has vibrations. Not 5, but maybe +- 2mm.
On the bench without main rotor, touching the boom you feel what you don`t want to have...
Removing the tail-rotor (blades and grips) COMPLETELY REMOVES ALL VIBRATIONS.
Seems to be not a balancing problem (no change with different cm² of thin tape on the blades).
So what is left over, maybe a tail blade tracking issue..... ?

Sounds like the tail boss spigots could be bent. Take the blades/grip/boss assembly off as a unit and holding one blade turn the hub using an allan key to turn the screw in the grip you are holding. If the other blade scribes an arc the spigot is bent, repeat on the other. You can straighten these with the blades attached by hand until they spin perfectly around the spigot. Either that or buy some more tail rotor hubs - they are cheap. Also bearings may need replacing.

Spigots are perfect.
The only issue found is, that friction of one grip under load seems to be noticeably higher.
On disassembly, no defects found, bearings o.k.
By the way: The pressure bearing halfs (top / bottom) seem to be not identical !!?? In one half, the ball track is broader/deeper than in the other one....

To be honest, most guys most likely would not care about my Problem. The heli works, and all those throwing around the 270 care about other phenomena than vibes...

Seems as I need a "tail rotor whisperer", glas bowl, or an expert in heliopathy...

I had bad vibration on a new heli's tail and put on a different new set of blades and it all but disappeared. One can only try these things. I think tail vibrations are very obvious only because they are amplified by the length of the boom and are easy to see. Like you said, some may not worry about it. Chris
