Default Ground Effect: Hovering the Walkera 4#3 close to an inch above ground

Who says its virtually difficult for a Walkera 4#3 to hover close to ground because of ground effect ?

Not if the head is modded with the bell hiller mod

Bell hiller modding actually puts the 4#3 on a much controlled flight even if you hover close to ground as the pilot can directly influence the cyclics of the main blades (bell-hiller head) through the tx cyclic stick rather than just working on the pitch of the paddles (hiller head)

increasing hover height ....

Hi I have a Walkera 4#3B with the CNC machined head. Can you explain for a Newbie what the Bell Hiller mod is please.

My initial attempts had the heli doing dying sparrow impressions, lots of flapping about on its side on the floor.

The video was cool. Just goes to show what can be achieved.

Cheers

Bell Hiller modding basically is a rotor head mechanical mod allowing the swashplate to have a direct influence on the pitch of the main blades. The stock configuration only allows the swashplate to pitch the paddles which then provides pitch information to the main blades (cascaded) thus there is some delay from tx input to actual heli response.

You can get direct information from here and some instructions on how to build one..
