Default Walkera 4#3: Extended Servo Horns Mod for increased swash cyclic angle

Lacking the capability to specify the end points of your servo from the transmitter, Here is another mod which allows you to extend the cyclic angle of the swashplate through servo horn replacement;




Basically, we increase the length of the horns and then we mount the swash link at the end of the horn;





Obviously with this mod, the cyclic throws from end to end is increased thus pushing more cyclic data on the head resulting to an increase in speed (ff/rolls/etc).

The horns were fabricated from the stock Esky micro servo horns;





To reduce the weight, a dremel kit was used to trim the edges.








Weight is not a problem. In fact the plastic material used for these horns are pretty much lighter.

Some points when implementing this mod:

- Make sure there is no binding (listen for servo buzz) at the extreme points.
- Adjust the horns such that it wont hit te canopy support pin.

* Note: From the test video, you will notice that the heli's body is subjected to an extreme angle (blades almost hitting ground while in flight) then a quick cyclic recovery input - indicating an increase in cyclic data applied on the head.

The original flight is much more stable than this video, but I think this mod gives you more range on the angles and at the same time requires the pilot to adjust accordingly. If you want more agility, may be you should order the new Walkera 4g3. It's coming out in NOV. I preordered one from wowhobbies.com for about $170 + shipping and comes to about $195 with an extra battery. I hope to get it on time as there are often delays on new helis. I'm hoping to may be change the Rx on the new 4g3 to match with the DX7. Too bad Walkera doesn't offer a bare-bone version and shave a few dollars from price.

Nope, its just me flipping the TX cyclic sticks to see how i can quickly recover. She really flys stable;
