Default What "next" heli for you?

As I noted many of us have started with the CX2 and in hindsight for me a wise decision. For me however I just HAD to get something to fly other than sim. Must say I love my CX2 and do not anticipate outgrowing it anytime soon.

But... I am dying to get a collective pitch machine. I am back and forth on nitro or electric but want at least a 500 size. Would love either the Trex 500 electric or a Trex 600 Nitro. However, I plan to always have my first machine and love in the CX2 for rainy days and one day will pass it on to my son who is two in April. He loves it now and tries to say airplane as it flies which comes out "air pie." Dad is teaching him "h e l i c o p t e r"

So lets hear it guys what are your aspirations? Budget or money no object which of course would be a turbine rc heli.

I should be adding a Honeybee fixed pitch to my collection this month. I can't see going straight to collective pitch from a coaxial without using an el cheapo HBFP to beat up first as far as the learning curve.

Once I've mastered the HBFP, I plan on getting a Raptor .30 or .50 V2. I haven't made up my mind yet. I'm thinking if I buy a Raptor .30 I can convert it over to electric pretty easily. We'll have to see what happens when I get there.

I think I,m going with a HB2 I just got my cx2 and have falln in love with it and this forum I'm also changing hobbies from R/C gas boats I've already started deverting funds from the upcoming race season. Like the cost of start up for the HB2 will be geting one next week and setting it up on the work beanch also will be getting a sim still trying to fig out which one to get I've been looking around would like to get one that has the cx2 and the HB2 since I live in chi-town I plan to fly the cx2 indoors practice on the sim with both of them so when spring hits I hope to be some what together so the guys at the filed will not have to spend to much time helping me.

Well I was RC trucks for years and now have the CX2 and will fly it for awhile and like barak1001 said I will probably go to the Honey Bee or something along that line.

The fixed pitch tail rotors helis have the advantages of lower head speeds than the collective pitch helis and perform less of a chicken dance on a tip over so much less damage per crash.
The respond slower, fly more like a truck than a sports car.

I bought just an airframe and used the electronics from the Blade 400 on a Compy. The Compy is another fixed pitch heli.

This durability allows more flying, less bench time and a thicker wallet.

I have a Blade CP and a CP+ waiting in the wings. I farted around with the CP for a while before getting a mCX and a CX2. I'm seriously thinking about selling the CP and CP+.
I also have a T-Rex 450 V2 that I picked up used with a DX7. I'm waiting to get some practice time on a sim before taking that one out.

Hey Fly N. I have heard RC boats are very $$$. Could be an easy switch for you. Any radios to take with you to helis? I want to get a DX7 next purchase and ditch two others in the process (Real Flight 4.5 & CX2). My thoughts one radio to master with a ten or twenty model memory.

To answer your question of sims. I bought the Real Flight at $199. Comes with tx. If you purchase this one you can go to knifeedge (sp?) and download the CX2, Trex and many others. If you have a tx of your own others may be cheaper. Reflex is popular I hear. WARNING if you have an older pc or a laptop as I beware. I downloaded the 4.0 demo on thier site (you may try as well for free, one heli and two planes to fly) only to buy the 4.5 and it not run on my laptop. However, they were very helpful and shipped for free a 4.0 version that will run on my machine and I may upgrade at any time.

Good luck to you and hope to hear of your flight progress. I am feeling like an "old salt" after a week Hats of the Blade folks for making it so easy even I can fly one!

You are wright on cost I have 4 gas boats I race cost of each boat around $1,500.00 plus entry fees and only being able to race on sundays you know the funny thing I was at the hobby shop to by parts for the boats and they were flying a mcx I tryed it and was hook bought a cx2 found this forum and have been hooked like a junkie I'll be selling off some of the fleet soon to buy a sim and move up to a HB2 love the cost to thrill ratio>

Cool fun factor with the helis is it requires much less are to have fun in. No track, no water.
Can fly so close to home or if the mCX or CX2, right at home...

Exactly why I'm selling off my car stuff for helis. Even in So. Cal we are now limited on tracks. It sucks driving 45 mins to race. Helis are my new passion

I agree with all of you...These Heli's are so addictive. I have alot of mastering to do before upgrading birds but it is in my future and i will be looking for direction from all of you guys for the proper transition. Flying indoors on cold days rocks tho...
