Default Most expensive pitch gauge lol (iphone users)

Got an iphone???? USE IT!!!! Also there are digital levels out there that sell for 40 bucks but I would never spend that when I can use my 10 dollar eflite Pitch Gauge, but since I have an iPhone why not get exact measurements

Heres what you got to do:

1) download the free level tool in the apps store

2) using the blade holder cut a slit under the two blade slots so you can slide it tightly onto one of the main blades. (the original slots are too loose to use but I found they are perfect for my SAB 425 blades, so I use the stock slots for the 425's and a newly cut slot for the 325's)

3) place the iphone flat on the tail boom and hit the calibration button to zero out the level.

4) place the newly calibrated level and secure it to the blade holder (rubber band) and slide it onto one main blade. Now make sure that the base of the iphone which was zero'ed out on the boom is now flat to the blade.

5) go ahead with you pitch measuring and read the degrees on the phone.

I own a pitch gauge but this is nice because I'm not straining my eyes trying to level it with the flybar and also I can eyeball it damn close but why not have exact degree measurements when I have the iphone sitting there.

Food for thought.

Interesting idea. I'm just wondering how accurate it is though?

If you wanted to level something for construction purposes you would have to calibrate it to something that is guaranteed level. However since you level off the boom then you calibrate it to that and it don't matter if your work bench is on a 45 degree angle while you set up the head. I have digital levels that I use while I inspect (I'm a machine shop inspector) and they work just as good as this. Even with those I don't go by it 100% but it gets me close and I can get further into an inspection knowing I'm at least close. Since most people use a hand pitch gauge which you use by eye this is far more accurate, excessively accurate for blade pitching but it never hurts to be even closer.

Actually there is no play as the rubber band it real tight, If I wanted I could even get a real thick rubber band to ensure that but trust me there's no movement. It just sits there while you pitch from 10 pos to 10 neg so it's not like it has to be sturdy enough for me to spool it up to 100% throttle The bottom of the phone has a flat spot where you plug the charger and thats what I use to zero off the boom and then I make sure it's flat to the blade. Trust me it works, When I was at work the other day (Yeah I'm laid off but I go hang out ) I calibrated it off my precision granite surface plate which is accurate within .0002 of an inch and then I put it up to a precision 45 degree angle block and the it read 45.1 degrees.......... CAN"T BEAT THAT FOR A FREE iPhone APP

heres a link to one you can buy off Readyheli for 40 bucks and if you peep the specs you'll see that theirs is accurate within .1 degrees

Sorry bobyjimmie I'm serious

there are a few levels to choose from but I recommend this one is has better features and the screen is more clear than the other one. Some of the levels don't have the degrees in a digital mode just the bubble mode. I downloaded three and erased 2 when I found this one.

Even if the rubberband is really tight you need a second level to level your iphone to the blade mount. OK FINE I GIVE UP!! Im a blackberry user and refuse to admit Iphones are cool, fine you caught me.

Your using your rubber blade holder as the attachment point for your Iphone level right? Your Iphone level is rubber banded to that blade holder. How do you know that the Iphone and the blade holder are sync'd up perfectly without a second level or a square to check it. You could have rubber banded your Iphone on crooked!

I don't think you understand. You place the flat of the phone on the boom and hit calibrate, this calls the boom 0 pitch and it is coming off the flat of the phone now. Then when it is rigged up you keep the flat of the phone on the flat of the blade and at zero pitch it should read zero. If the level has been calibrated then why would I need another level. The level isn't supposed to be "level" it's supposed to be zero pitched to the boom. trust me, ready heli sells digital pitch gauges that function just like this actually exactly like this and you don't level a level. man that sounds confusing written out.

Sorry bobyjimmie I'm serious
heres the instruction for this digi pitch gauge

Just turn it on, set on the boom and zero it, stick it on the blades and read the pitch, it is that simple.

Default Cheaper alternative

Here's a cheaper alternative than rushing out and purchasing a iPhone.

http://www.wixey.com/anglegauge/index.html

It's even magnetic.
