Default New DX6i lipo question.

https://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=628078

This thread went to crap before I could ask...

The new TX uses 4 AA batteries. How are you using a Lipo? Are you soldering anything? Anyone have a pic or link to this lipo?

Can't wrap my head around it...

Red face LSD NimH vrs LiPo

Turnigy 4000mAh Spektrum DX8 Intelligent Transmitter Pack. $17.95
vrs
AA LSD NimH Low Self Discharge

Now
I own use the Turnigy 4000 but there is a problem charging these. I also own the 2550mAH LSD NimH.
Hands down the LSD NimH are better than any LiPo.
Why?
Turnigy 4000 are not a true 4000 its more like 3100. So its 3100 vrs 2400. LiPo also have charge issues where a LSD NimH has none. What was the problem with old NimH was they lost charge over time but LSD NimH hold a charge for years just like a LiPo.

Not quite. The Lips are 7.4 volts and 4 nimh AAs are 4.8 volts total. So the power capacity for the lipo, even at 3100mah, is about 23 Watt-hours, and for the nimh it is about 12 Watt-hours. This is why people put up with the charge problems of lipos. Much better energy density.

By the way, how did you come up with the 3100mah number? I don't doubt it, I'm just curious.

To answer the OP, the thread you linked is referring to the newer DX6, not the DX6i, which uses rechargable AA batts and thats it, no lipo.

3100 mah vrs 4100
I did not do the test. It was done by a guy here.
Ya your right about the voltage but its more about the charge hold.
Nothing piss me off more than to pick up my Tx and its dead or dying. With LSD NimH I've never see that even after winter Tx storage.
Last
IMO Storage charge Cost and Charge issues make LSD NimH a better buy.

I agree, nothing beats the LSD batts for charge retention. I've been using Imedion AAs for years and love them. I have a set in my old DX6i that I never use anymore and they last forever. I wish they had gone to 8 AAs in the DX9 instead of the Lipos.
