Default Got issues with "twitching"? Try a different tape!

I had a tape swapping session today (yep, Ive lost it, Im beyond repair).

Just because the VBar comes with a gyro tape included its not at all certain its the right one for you.

I tried today everything from thin, stock, soft, softer, supersoft and it makes a HUGE difference between those.
I ran on an electric heli with no apperent vibrations, but still I couldnt fly it with the thinnest tape at all, tail was all over the place, stock tape and I got severe twitching.
The softest on the other hand was too soft, causing vibrations at stops in all axis.

So, TRY AROUND! Find the best tape for YOUR heli.

Tip: If you find one that is little too soft, strapping down the gyro will often do the trick.

good advise, on my 700n I am using one piece of 3m red tape and one piece of stock vstabi tape, then strapped just a little snug. This has been working great on my 700, no issues at all.

I noticed on the new Henseleit Rigid the sensor shelf is mounted with rubber grommets. Would that be advisable?

Carson, how thick is the parma tape you link to?

This is interesting, I think I will experiment as well. I just put on some of the du-bro tape, it is 3mm thick and super glue sticky.

I'm using the "spartan" method on my IonX2

Gyro
____ spartan thin tape
------ 15 gram spartan plate
==== spartan thick tape
Heli gyro mount

Flies awesome with VBar V4!

I had the same problem.

My tail wasn't holding. It would sometimes go left and sometimes right when hovering and applying pitch.

I remounted it with my spartan plate and it worked perfect. For about a few minutes until I accidentally enabled the piro flipping mode on the vbar.

When inspecting the broken bird the tail servo connection had come loose. It was most likely just piruetting and me trying to level it out made it look like piro flips.

Time for upgrades.

I'm using Zeal with a tight velcro strap. It's wroked well for me thus far with V3. I may try loosening or tightening and see what happens...

I use Zeal - use it on all my helis! Stuff of the Gods, man!
The Zeal on my Vibe 50 V-bar V4 is actually 2nd. time re-used, - Zeal can be recycled over and over, just rub in dishwash, clean in cold water and dub dry - bingo good for another go. Can almost lift the entire heli by the gyro. NO strap across.

I use Align gyro tapes on my logo 400 with ZERO problem. Electric helis are easy on this but nitro folks must be paying much attention!

Note that Align new "gel" is good vibration wise, but it aint Zeal in terms of glue, strap em down, I had one coming off, when I carried it back (phew !)

MrMel, does this behaviour typically present itself on all axis, or mostly in the tail ?
On my logo 500 I'm getting a slow wag, in the tail, of a couple inches in a hover, it seems to be solid in flight though.
Raising and lowering common gain hasn't helped. Cyclic axis seem to be good.
I've run the tail optimizer for a few flights and it's helped a little, but the wag is still there.
I'm using the stock v-bar mounting pad pad, perhaps softer might help ?

Regards,
Nathan

Yep it can help with different tape,

But also;
Slow wag - Check for binding
Slow wags + Ticks - Checks for Vibrations

Tape can help alot if its vibration based, but look over all first, since changing tape on a electric with vibrations is bandaid primary

How good is Zeal by itself? I'm having trouble getting a strap to cooperate with the L500/600 frame. I can't get one to sit in there evenly and, Zeal is so soft it will conform to whatever angle the strap imposes. I could cut a horizontal opening in the back of the battery compartment. Seems extreme though.

Thougjts?

By it self its too soft, you would get wobble at hard stops.

Then its better to take something thinner.

I found the larger grey pad for the spartans works very well.

Edit: not really, tail not the best, using stock tape, working much better.

I'm using that too on my T-rex 500. The sensor is mounted on top of the boom block. Would the metal plate be beneficial or is is nonsense on a '425' size?
