Nother update.. now on the 3rd session of filling and sanding.. which should be the last. Ventral fin plug is complete and ready for glassing, other than marking and cutting out the NACA duct in it..

I was hoping to get more done today, but i got a later start than i was hoping, and the beaver tail proved to be much more difficult to build than i thought, so i ended up sending 2 hours just staring at pictures and taking measurements trying to figure out the best way to do it. I got pictures through most of that process, i just have to install the ECM antenna and glue the solid "chunk" of balsa into position and i will consider the beaver tail complete. I was really hoping to be able to start fiberglassing in the morning, but i've had my share of work today and i'm not going to cut corners now just to get onto something other than sanding.. The fun part though, is going to be finding a place to keep the fuselage so i can finish the wings and tail section and glass them.. Anyways, here's some pictures from today:

Im not that fast gary. i've had the wings and tail section "done" for the past 3 or 4 months, its just never in the pictures bc i never have them installed until i have to check the fit of them onto the fuselage.

After looking at alot of photos', scratching my head, and doing some measurements on 3 views and some other items, i came up with the center fairing of the beaver tail was just a little to chunky in portions of it. The measurements mostly matched with everything, but it just didn't agree with the photo's i have seen. So i put it in a diet and thinned it down a bit on the top and bottom. I think it looks much better now. I also made up the ECM antenna and fairing that's mounted back their. The Fuel dump pipe will be added to the final part by drilling the right size hole for a aluminum tube to stick out of (would make a cool fuel tank vent, if it wasn't between the tailpipes). I've also got the OWF's (over wing fairings) trimmed to shape. NOW it looks much more like a tomcat! The top of the fuselage needs just a little bit of final sanding in a few places and it will be ready for fiberglassing. I am at the stage now, where i am debating on doing the fiberglassing or finishing the wings and tail and doing all the fiberglassing at once.. Ohhh the choice's. haha

Here's a few pictures..

Some-more progress today.. This took the majority of all day to complete, and it looks like nothing has been done.. The Tail and fuselage are now complete. Minus some finish sanding in a few small area's they are ready for fiberglassing. Which if all goes as planned and i'm able to get the wings done tomorrow, that should start tomorrow evening or monday. The Right vertical fin tip fairing for.. who know's what on the full scale was add'd. I cut out the forward cannon blister and roughly have it shaped. Finished up all the little nip picking stuff on the rudders, vertical and horizontal stabs... And took a few more pictures.. lol

Alright, As far as i'm concerned the wings are done and ready for fiberglassing, as are the flaps, spoilers, slats, etc etc. I may cap the trailing edge of the wing with some 1/32" balsa, but i have to get some from the LHS first. And if i do, thats a simple 20 minute job. But the spoiler panels are cut out, their pockets backfilled and the edges of them hardened by soaking them with thin CA. I noticed that i have a lip piece to put on the bottom of each intake, so i'll get that done tomorrow and the glassing will begin as well.. I may make a video showing the process, but idk.. depends on if i feel like hearing myself talk or not. So on with the pictures.. not alot though..

Got home a bit early today and started getting things ready for fiberglassing. I've marked the scale seperation lines for the OWF fairings onto the fuselage, and then cut 4" carbon fiber tape to cover both sides of the lines. Reason being, is because the OWF's will be cut free from the main plug, then will have a "frame" installed on them, and a matching frame for them to rest into on the fuselage, this way the parts can be molded seperately, but they will still match the airframe VERY closely. I've also cut some carbon tape to go over the very forward of the top of the inlet. It is very thin their (under 1/8") and im afraid the fiberglassing and molding process may warp it, so the carbon tape gives me some extra piece of mind. I'm hoping to get the first layer of fiberglass on the fuselage tonight, so it can be rolled over and the bottom glassed tomorrow.
A couple of people were concerned about not having enough access to the "innards" for maintenance purposes. the OWF hatches are 16" wide and 14" tall, their should be no problem getting your hands in their to fix and install stuff!!!

And of course, the pictures!
