Default Motor upgrade

Hey I have a Belt cp v2 and I am thinking about upgrading the motor to a scorpion 2221-8, an align 430xl or align 450m. I already have a 30 amp esc but I will have to upgrade to a 40 amp with either of these motors. What pinion gear would I use with these motors? I want to know what do you guys think about this? I want more power and want my heli just jump in the air like a bat out of hell, but I am worried that the power might strip the main gear. Has anyone done this upgrade?

13T... Your picking a good motor and tossing in a 40A ESC, 13T should be fine.

So will those motors fit with out any modification? They use a 3.5mm shaft which is bigger then the esky 2.3mm shaft.

They should fit fine from what I know, most people cut away the motor "shield" on the frame though. Pretty much every frankien-belt is running the HDX450 motor or a scorpion which is 3.5mm.

So I shouldn't have to worry about it stripping out the stock main gear right?

If you flipped the idle up switch when the blades weren't in motion then definitely, even the stock motor would be chew that main gear!

But it should be perfectly fine..

Just a bit of advice, if you do strip your Esky gear in a crash (always happens with the Belt), invest in a blade 400 main gear or if you wanna spend some serious money ($30), grab a microheli main gear, it's damn near indestructible.

If you dropin the scorpion you should try a 12T first the 13T is getting to quite a high head speed and the poor little belt just aint man enough imho.

+1 what alex said.

I'm currently running a 13t pinion on the belt, and with that headspeed and twitchyness I wish I had got a 12t now. IMIHO I would only need that for the hardest 3D moves so whilst I'm learning I just won't need it.

Once I get it re-built (again! lol) I'll try and dial in some D/R's on ELEV and AIL to try and calm it down, before I buy a 12t. Was thinking 80% DR as a starting point and going down from there it was that lively!!

I was also thinking would it be possible to drop the top of my throttle curve's to 90%. Think I read it had been recommended before, so I just get the torque of the motor without running it flat out.

Yes mate thats all good to go, although i think you should get the 12T now, you really dont need the 13T on unless 3D,in it you will get good result from dropping the curve but flat out on a 12T would be much better

Will stick one on my next order to try it. I should be heli part shopping this weekend so will try and shop somewhere that has got everything in stock I need. Hate paying double postage, cause one place doesn't have all the bits available.

I am going to run an Align 430XL motor with an 11T pinion. Should put me in the neighborhood of about 2907 for headspeed. I am running 2714 on the stock esky motor setup.

Your calculation on the 430XL seems right, I double checked it with 11t pinion, 140t main gear, 3700kv for the 430XL, 11,1 Volts and 90% efficiency (migh be a tiny bit lower though). But are you sure you want to run a headspeed that high on the Esky CNC head ? I fear it will drastically shorten the lifetime of the head. Or worse, it could become a bit dangerous. Just a friendly tip, that's all. Happy flying !

Well a 200rpm jump from stock isn't that bad, and at least I have some kind of metal head and carbon blades. No 3D for me though, just hard fast flying. I was looking at a 12 or 13T and it was WAY high so I settled with the 11T.
