Good... just take your time, Bob... Seriously.

I won the Velocity 50 in H-to-the-C's raffle, and having done electrics only, I'm really looking forward to this series, lots to learn and I want to make it right... but...take your time. Make it fun for you, again!

Hope you had/are having a wonderful holiday, sir!

Scott

Same here, but won a case of fuel and need the kit. It will be my first nitro too. It will be summer time before I get a kit and motor because of school.

I hear you, man... I can't afford to build the helicopter in one fell swoop (holidays, etc.), so I'm trying to figure out what I should buy first. Honestly, other than CCPM setup and building the basics, the nitro thing, tuning, etc., is going to be a quite a learning experience. I'm kind of lost. Good luck with school, Jeremy!

Great vids as always Bob, just a heads up for anyone building this kit

- I would suggest starting off with one of the 3 setups mentioned on page 6 so you can use the manual link lengths (which are accurate), anything else will require you to adjust the two links to the mixer, and unlike an align head nothing on this head will ever be level

- Do not size the links in the head, they will work themself in after a few flights. I would recommend sizing the push-pull and bellcrank links.

- For folks who want to run a large pitch range especially in the less advanced settings i would recommend picking up the longer shouldered balls on the mixing arms (swash to arm ball)

- 140 degree conversion kit !!!

OK I will move the one ball I have at intermediate to the advanced setting. I think I can handle advanced.

As for sizing the links... I am sorry but they were WAY TOO TIGHT in my opinion (I mean they squeaked they were so tight) and considering how much sizing I had to do I could not see them settling in anytime soon! Tight links mean hard loads to servos and thus possible failure.
So why are you saying not to size the links? Is there some issue with them wearing fast?

Bob

Finless you are the man I Love my Align heli and I really want a 600le, but the V50 looks just as good and most of the parts are way cheaper. I have read that they have fixed all or most of the problems that the were having with the first kits. I will wait a few more months to see what the owners of the kits they just released have to say. If all is good the v50 will be on my list of things to purchase for the summer!!!!!

The links just wear in Bob, if you size them they will be loose after a few flights. The links on the bellcranks don't move much so they won't wear in but the head ones will. As long as you aren't having any brown out issues on the bench i would just leave the links. After 5-10 flights if they are still too tight then you might look into sizing them. After the initial break in they don't really wear in anymore, i have atleast 300 flights on the 550 (similar head) and they are still on the original links.

Bob from what i have seen so far of Bob's kit he has all the latest and greatest. The real biggy is the new one way bearing and one way sleeve. The new one way sleeve has Outrage written on it, making it easy to identify. If your kit doesnt include this part HD will send you the proper one, but we are into the 2nd generation of production and all the kits should include them.

By the way.. I got a wierd one. One of my short link rods looks threaded but the link wont screw on. Close inspection shows the threads on one end are just rings! I think I have some short rod laying around I can use as a replacement.

I dunno HFG... Again my links are way tighter than I like and I have built a lot of helis. I think I will just lightly size them then. In fact wait. I will not size them and get them all on the head and see how hard it is to move the swash and judge from that. It's too late for the flybar cage links though.

Yeah i mean like anything its a sliding scale, if they are crazy tight then yeah you can size them. But you really do want them pretty tight and let them break in, it should take some effort to roll the links between your two fingers.

LMAO yeah the ribb'ed rods happens every once in awhile. Sometimes you get lucky and there is a spare in the spares bag, sometimes you might have to wait for a replacement.
