Update for VL. Just test flown the hacked Bee with K2 esc and all is fine thanks.

I used the solderless method and the conversion was not without it's moments as at first the main motor wouldn't spool up (X380). Traced this to an internal break in the armature so binned it. I had a spare brand new X380 which when I came to fit it had been supplied with a 2.3mm bore pinion not 2.0mm. Xtreme quality control ??? So retrieved the binned motor and swapped over the pinion after which all now ok .

Great money saving hack thanks

Great job Buggy!

Happy you solved one of the many flaws of the Xtreme Crap motor. If it was anyone else they would flog me blaming a faulty tutorial.

hey everyone bugster sent me over this way and i gotta thank you for this awsome hack VL, so i noticed in the tutorial you plug your motor into the external ESC. Will i have to change the connection from the ext. ESC to a jst to be able to run the stock motor (i have a V2). If so could you link me to any tutorials that might be available that would be awsome, also any splicing tutorials which i think you mentioned earlier in this thread you were going to make.

cheers

You dont have to change the connection to a JST but it makes it quick and easy every time you want to change motors that use JST connections such as the X380 and stock motor. A lot of other companies make 370 / 380 motors and they also use the JST. If you dont have one you can simply splice the wires together and wrap them with electrical tape

I have a sticky on a solderless LBA connection which ive used that method on other connections which may help you

I figured with all the new HoneyBees bought on Christmas I needed to get this tutorial finished.
I was actually going to do a mini "sub tutorial" on splicing the two battery leads without having to touch a knife or snippers, the only thing you need is heat shrink.
Ill add it another day if you guys want.
Hi VL,
Did you get this tutorial done in the end?
Just got a King2 ESC and motor on order today... For when my 4in1 goes pop from the CP3 motor I installed the other day...

It did go pop....

King ESC now installed and back in the air!! Made up a little Y cable for the power connections from some JST connectors I had lying around.. Also soldered a JST onto the ESC so that it works with my HB motors..

Thanks for the help VL!!

Now have a HBFP V2 with CP3 main and tail motors...

Very cool Nick and smart move pre ordering the ESC

My V2 4in1 went wacko yesterday and ended up catching on fire
Dropped in the King 2 ESC with King 2 motor that I created for this tutorial and all is good in the hood

Hi VL

Great tut that you did there.
I have a question though.
I have a stock 4in1 that spins the tail motor as soon as the battery is plugged in.
Do you think this mod would fix my broken 4in1?
Be worth a go if it would

The ESC replaces (bypasses) the 4in1s internal main motor ESC. Your tail motor runs off a different ESC so the tutorial will not help you. Sounds like maybe your pro pot is turned too far up causing the tail motor to spin early. Could be other factors as well, need more info.

Thanks for the reply VL. I already replaced the 4in1 but kept the old one. Thought I might be able to resurrect it when I saw your tut.
