Default newish JR Radio

http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...ProdID=JRP2930
X9503 2.4 A/S Tx w/ R921 Rx No Servos MD2 by JR

I guess JR does listen. too bad I bought a new 9303 couple of months ago. This has two features I really would like.. Throttle timer start and backlight LCD.

Well I wouldn't rush out to replace my current radio. But if I was looking for a new one, this would be it I guess.

well, at least the one you posted has a proper flight mode switch.

unless there's a heli-specific verison of the 9505 i defintely wouldnt want a button where my flight mode switch is supposed to be

Agreed. The throttle based timer is nice. The backlight is nice. The 50 model memory is nice.

All nice, but not enough to change, unless I can sell my X9303 for a good price.

And it would have to come in a Heli version.

Don't see much difference vs the 9303. I think there are better modes in the pipeline. They have to keep up with some of the innovations coming from the competition.

Well, i for one like this radio. i don't "need" a new tx right now, but have been considering what my next one would be. This fits the bill perfectly for me... Throttle timer, backlit screen, good price, and i always liked the looks of the JR radios, so this is perfect..... BUT i agree with Finless. If it doesn't have the new low latency software/hardware upgades, it's not for me. My next radio WILL have this low latency, high speed setup.

Guess I should have been clearer. They have a heli version of this radio when I went back to the website and looked.. I had just posted the first one I seen when I looked at it.

Looks like a stop gap effort. The good news from this is JR seems to be aware they need to step things up a notch or two, we will see what is forthcoming.

I think the biggest news here is the $80 price drop, probably to position the upcoming X11 in the $600+ bracket. There is a heli-specific version -- but we have to wait for the pic to figure out if it is the same as the X9303 heli.

To me JR should be watching the sub-$500 Hitec Aurora 9 with excellent touch-screen programming, cheap receivers, and a backlight screen. Now if only it had model matching and worked with DSM Plug-n-Play

I wonder if Horizon would "repair" my X9303 with a new backlit screen? I don't have a need for the other features, but screen would be nice, without voiding my warranty with DIY solution.

I could be wrong here, but ....

Upgrading an X9303 to an X9503 is probably not possible. Even just the backlit screen would require the new firmware to control it, which also includes the other features like 50 model memory and stick timer activation. That being said, more memory is probably required to support the 50 model memory.
