I have the Rhino pinion on my 500. Works good for me. No problems yet. Seems quiter, too, but that may be just my imagination.

rhino pinion all the way for me, the stock pinions look flimsy next to a rhino !!

i used a 13T on a stock motor/esc setup with flybar and 100% throttle, 6s 3000mah 30-40C lipo.

then i mounted a 1600Kv scorpion + 75A esc with flybar and 95% throttle same lipo as above.

now i went flybarless on the same setup and it seems that i need less throttle so i'm flying 85% throttle and i'm thinking of using a 12T pinion to go to 95 or 100% throttle(rhino pinion offcourse).

if i had a stock 500 pinion I would wear it out first if possible. nothing wrong with the stock 500 pinions. if i needed a gear change then ya pop a rhine in from helidirect there pretty cheap there

if I had a brass pinion like on my old 450's then its great upgrade.

Loved 'em on the 450... quieter indeed (than my worn stock pinion) last long time, no issues.

Is there a rhino pinion that fits the stock blade 400 motor? The one with the step in the shaft.

Yes.. I used it on my old B400. I don't recall the shaft diameter though...

How did you deal with the step on the motor shaft? Did you use the pinion that fit the larger or smaller section?
Otherwise, I can't tell from the description on any of the Rhino gears that they are stepped.

No.. any pinion with a grub screw works.. the flat is just for the grub screw.

On the Eflite motor shaft, the portion near the motor is a larger diameter than the diameter towards the end. The Eflite pinions have the same step in them.
I know what you mean about the set screw, but that's different than what I'm talking about.

Hmmm... that different than my old B400's motor.. I just looked at it... the pinion on mine is the same diameter the whole way.. with just one little flat spot in the middle. I guess they changed the design.

That would mean they would not work on the new 3.5mm Align 430SP and 450M motors.

I use the Align hardened steel pinions on my 430SP, and just recently a pinion tooth broke off. However, I had flown that pinion on a motor with a broken bearing for a month. So that pinion got literally hammered millions of times, before it finally gave.

look here I am not seeing a 3.5 for a 450 class motor, Align must be trying to specialize their parts.

i`d like to know which rhino gear you used on the stock blade 400`s 420 motor as well.
i bought every rhino gear, even the one`s that use to be in the blade400 part`s listings, none had the step down from the 3.17 to 2.3 that the 420 motor`s shaft has.

as far as are the gear`s good? so far so good, i`ve been running them about 6 month`s now.
are the quiter? havent noticed any difference in the sound, and i fly indoor`s every day.
now i have noticed ALOT of main gear dust all over the inside of the frame.
i use the proper 0.5 mod pinion`s.
