First impressions of the specs are that the PL8T is now the same physical size as the PL6T, but with the drawback that the PL8T only offers 50 W of internal discharge (on the PL8 it was 100 W).
Hi:

Sorry, this is a typo. The PL8T and DPL8T offer 95W internal discharge. The PL6T and DPL6T offer 50W internal discharge. We will fix this right away!

Ok cool, I've updated the first post.

One question: The PowerLab chargers use some sort of algorithm/averaging for displaying cell voltages - so that it appears all the cells are at exactly the same voltage (down to three decimal places) when in fact they are not (they are however, very close to each other, like perhaps +\- 10 mV).

Will the PowerLab Touch chargers do the same thing?

I'd honestly prefer to have the *true* voltage reading displayed at all times.

Also, can you connect the PowerLab touch to a computer via USB to do firmware updates and logging?

PLT will do a little averaging/rounding, but will be closer to true voltage than existing PL's. With that said, anything in the 10mV range is irrelevant when it comes to termination/balance voltage, so I wouldn't get too hung up on that issue.

Yes, the PLT will have a Windows-based firmware upgrade utility (like current Bump Controller), and will get a full-blown Windows 10 CCS app in 2018. It will be the same app and features as the existing Bump Controller CCS app for Android and Apple. Windows 10 CCS app delivery has been held up by some lack of BT/LE support in Windows 10 SDK - hopefully they deliver the necessary updates soon.

The software feature set will be very closely aligned with the existing Bump Controller and both will continue to get new features over time. Also note that PLT chargers will be capable of automatic firmware upgrades over Bluetooth when using the CCS app, just like the Bump Controller and attached PowerLabs do today.

Ok, thanks for the information.

It would still be great to get a true readout of whatever the voltage sensing circuitry is measuring for the cell voltages. I know differences < 10 mV are unimportant and nearing the limits of accuracy, but nonetheless, having the charger artificially override the voltage reading feels like cheating

Looks good! Expect to see lots of used PL8 and PL6 chargers coming up for sale next year!

I have no need for bump controller and am very happy with the old interface. I have used it so much I don't even think any more...

I have all the pre-sets entered for the batteries I use.

I was able to pick up a new dual PL8 charger for 100 less than the new touch ones but in Canadian funds which is even less....

So at this point I will have 2 dual powerlab 8 units and a single PL8 unit.

My biggest concern is isolating each charger to a separate circuit on my panel so I don't pop the breaker every time I go to charge...

Dang, those 5000 mah 12s stick packs need some serious horsepower for charging. EDF jets and 700 helis such your wallet dry!!!!

Are there any of the new units being sent out for review?
