Default Main shaft ?

Hi guys. I am currently building a 600 LE. I have the main shaft mounted on to the main drive gear. Having fitted the lock collar I have up and down movement of the shaft. If I pull the main shaft up and then tighten the lock collar there is no longer any movement of the shaft. Which way is correct-----Pull the shaft up and the tighten the collar or let the shaft sit nornmally and then tighten the collar? Any help would be appreciated

Pull up the slack, tighten the collar.
