Has anyone tried these printed on plastic film? I have seen this in 8.5 x 11 sheets for inkjet printers but havent had a chance to play with it yet.

LOL, I had to do a double-take, too. I was actually referring to both canopies in fact. I was creating the vector templates when my charger beeped saying it was done. So I got up to fly the mCPX and totally forgot what I was doing before.

I will try to have the vector files ready for the weekend. Anyone got recommendations on paper? I remember I used to have this photo paper that was rather like the ones used for prints back in the day (kinda plastic-y but could fold and crease like paper). It was really high gloss, too...not that it matters. I don't have a printer.

I can see the store clerk's face now..."Yeah, so I'm looking for a good color printer...something for my helicopter."

I only use plastic film. As the surface is very prone to get smudged by fingerprints (hygroscopic because the ink has to get soaked in) I add a layer of clear automotive paint after the print is completely dry. Maybe plastic film for laser printers is better in this regard.

The material IMHO is best for "paper" canopies: very light, tear resistant and brilliant colors. Almost feels like lexan in your hand.

Could we get a link to the plastic paper you use. As an example so we are on the same page.

Not sure if you are referring to inkjet printable transparency sheets or something else.

Yes, I have a printer. And you did miss some fun the other night. I wasn't sure if mrmarc was your handle on HeliFreak.

I'm definitely prepared for the next meet, though. I didn't know I needed a different type of bus pass to catch the 880 up there. I was already at UTC.

Yes this is the material, although as printers cannot get solid colors on transparent sheets you have to use "plastic white film" or "glossy white film". Not sure about sources in the US, I purchased mine at an arts&crafts shop years ago.

While printing I realized that the little guide wheels of the printer left marks on the printed areas, had to tuck these in to get perfect results. May have to do with the sheets being 15+ years old.

Some links of which I think refer to similar material:

Wow! Nice work guys!!!

The Goblin idea is good, but it for sure looks like it needs to be vectorized first yes!

Nice Avatar, SHY! One of my first R/Cs. Been contemplating a tribute BigWig TDR paper canopy for a while. Early Tamiya designs rock!
