Default My little Mini Titan

Here's my baby before she exploded yesterday. My friend told me it was because taking the pictures stole its soul. Maybe he's right ... Anyway, I'm proud of the way it looks (looked).

My setup:
  • Microbeast BeastX FBL system.
  • Hs-65MGs on cyclic.
  • Futaba S9257 on tail.
  • Scorpion 2221-8v2.
  • Scorpion Commander 55av2 ESC.
  • KBDD tail blades.
  • Cheapo CF main blades that I got because I liked the color.
  • TT/Sonix head converted to flybarless using whto's method.
  • Metal tail gear drive pulley.
  • Bunch of other aluminum/CF pieces added as I saw fit (I particularly liked the CF version of the stock tail fin).
  • And, just for B335, those are the MSH Gorilla Gear one piece landing skids.

Looks really nice. How bad was the damage?

I was so frustrated I hardly even looked in-depth. Entire tail pitch slider assembly, main shaft, nearly every link on the head, pitch servo arm, antirotation bracket, battery tray (of course), canopy windshield, and not sure what else. I think it also hurt my pitch servo (even with metal gears). I was in a solid hover and she just made a loud sound and exploded 4 feet in the air. 3rd time in a row ... getting tired of it.

Really sorry to hear this Bob. We gotta get to the bottom of what's doing it. I've had hundreds of flights on mine with no issues (other than my dumb thumbs) and this exploding thing's just started happening. Just it's you it keeps happening to.

The last I read people were putting it down to Sonix shafts, but I thought you'd gone back to TT OEM ones.

It's got to be down to either what you're using, your setup, or something you're doing. That last bit I add lightly, as I used to read where people had this happen on spooldown, which turned out to be inadvertent rear cyclic input. As a result, I'm consciously "paws off" during spooldown now.

In any event, 4 times unlucky, I wouldn't blame you moving to a different heli.

It had something to do with the BeastX yesterday, I've decided, and maybe before that, too. It's happened 3 times to me, and I know for sure that the last two somehow caused or were caused by a serious vibration in the tail. I spooled it up in the driveway the day before and ran a whole pack through it on the ground with not even a hint of vibes, but at the field I got 'er in the air, noticed the tail vibrating after about 5 seconds, decided now would be a good time to hit T/H, and BOOM. Right before I hit T/H. The tail was vibrating so badly it looked like I had 2 tail rotors. My suspicion is that the incredible vibe on the tail caused the BeastX to go nuts, and it ... did ... something.

EDIT: Sorry to clutter up the pics thread with this ... I could put in a picture of the damage, but it would break my heart.

Hi Bob, I feel your pain . I have had 90 odd flights with my stock standad titan, and its never done anything like that. I had a trex 450s that had a bad habit of burning up esc's though. Sorry to hear. .jump back on the horse buddy. happy flying

Bob,

Sorry about your repeated incidents. It seems to make sense that vibe caused the beastx to act weired.

It happened to my MT after a rebuilt with new tail blades. I weighted the blades and they weight the same. But there was still vibe on the tail and causing the tail to wag when spooling up. It went away once it lifted off the ground. However, the wag returned when I was doing inverted FF during turns. So I dynamically balance the tail blades and it seemed to get rid of some of the vibes. Since then, I also replaced the main blade grip bearings and the main shaft bearings. They were all very worn out, especially the main shaft bearings. They will also cause vibe if they are bad, which in turn cause tail problem. I haven't got a chance to fly it but only hovering in my backyard after replacing the bearings due to weather. But I had several spooling up the bird without any tail wag. So it's looking quite promising.

May be you can check those bearing as well.

I'll have to do that- thanks for the advice. I had only thought about checking the tail bearings.

B335 is right. It's stock metal head from SE edition.

Maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me, but are you running a Beast X and a flybar at the same time?

Your eyes don't trick you. You can put BeastX for tail onl. In the case you have BeastX, see manual point 3.6 .
In future i will eventually convert this to FBL so to have another gyro doesn't make too much sense...
