Hello all. As the title im a newbie here and also to rc helicoptors. I have bought a new trex 500 with a nice cobra fuse. Fatuba T8J transmitter etc. Its all been setup not had chance to fly her yet however i have just span her up and wow. Ive been practicing with a 6 channel fly barless little xk110 heli however i think the trex 500 will be alot more stable. Go easy on me please 😂😂

Thanks Arron

Warm welcome to the hobby! xk110 is an excellent trainer. Just keep some main gears around for spares and you can fly all day. Also, Your 500 will be much more stable once you are ready.

I always recommend using an RC simulator to compliment your xk110 as you practice. If you have not already done so, join AMA and look for a local field.

Happy flying!

Welcome. If you can fly and XK110 out of stability mode (6G) you won't have trouble with the 500. Myself I'd suggest something less precious to learn with like the Blade 230S.

Enjoy and don't be afraid to ask questions even if they've been asked before.

If you live in America it's basically insurance should your (large) helicopter cause damage to it's surroundings during a crash. I didn't think to ask if you lived in America or not.

So how does it work in the uk for a 500 size heli? Do i need any insurance? Or is that usually covered when being part of a club. My dad has a 100m garden so i could practice to hover there but a field would be nice.

I hope someone can answer this. I'm giving this a bump to help him out. I do not know.

Take a look at the British Model Flyers Association page. I imagine if you join them like the AMA here that covers you for insurance etc.
