Default When 4 inches may as well be a mile....

Is it just me or does the first four or so inches above the ground freak the bejeezuz out of you?

I mean you're standing there spooling 'er up and then it happens , she getting light.. reeeaally light. I know that if I give 'er some stick she will hop up and clear the ground effect, but I still am very apprehensive.... meanwhile she's walking and wandering about.. and in my mind, all I see are broken blades and dollar signs... and a sound effect or two...

~sigh~

I've found that it's much easier to just get the thing in the air and into a hover fairly quickly.

Once you learn how much pitch / throttle it takes to lift your heli off the deck, and what it's going to do when it leaves the ground, it will become easy to just pop it right up under control.

Don't try to baby it off the ground too gently or for too long, it's much harder that way. After it's up, try to get it out of ground effect because it's kind of squirrely there too...

It took me a month to get the feel for my heli and TX characteristics before I figured this out. Keep at it, and one day it will just click and you'll be doing this
