All my governor gains are down under 10 and I do not strip gears. Try starting at 7 and going up from there if the head speed sags.

Yes. I have Castle ESCs in almost all of my birds. When I updated the software on my HV85 for some reason it set the gain to 30 and I got a gain wag. I put it back at 8 and no more tail wag. It also holds the head speed well and doesn't strip out my mod .07 gears.

It won't hurt to use a lower governor than needed but too high can cause wag and or stripped gears. That is why I would recommend to start low and up it until your head speed no longer sags during maneuvers. Think of it like the gain on your gyro. You want to use the least amount of gain to get the job done. If your gain is too high it will be hard on the equipment and possibly cause bad flight tendencies. Now it is possible you have other issues that are stripping the main gear as well so don't completely rule that out too.
